Hioki LCR Meters and Impedance Analyzers range from 1mHz to 1.3GHz devices to suit a wide range of applications in the testing of electronic components. The IM3590 impedance analyzer is an advanced component tester especially suited to electrochemical impedance measurements and includes a variety of graphing functions that are needed for battery and chemical material testing.
Frequencies as low as 1 mHz are needed to measure the electrochemical impedance of phenomena such as ion behavior. With an upper frequency limit of 200 kHz, Model IM3590 can also be used to measure properties such as solution resistance.
The Hioki IM3590 Chemical Impedance Analyzer can perform frequency sweep measurement at up to 801 points and display Cole-Cole plots. It can also perform level-sweep and time-interval measurements.
In addition to Z, Y, θ, Rs (ESR), Rp, Rdc (DC resistance), X, G, B, Ls, Lp, Cs, Cp, D (tan σ), Q, and T, the Hioki IM3590 Chemical Impedance Analyzer can measure the dielectric constant (ε) and conductivity (σ).
The Hioki IM3590 Chemical Impedance Analyzer provides four electrochemical component models and is capable of isolating and analyzing properties such as charge transfer resistance and electric double layer capacitance. It also provides five equivalent circuit analysis types for normal circuit elements, materials, and components.
Ideal for Measuring Electrochemical Impedance
Designed for use in the electrochemical field with materials and components used in devices such as primary and rechargeable batteries, fuel cells, and electric double layer capacitors and to test corrosion and anti-corrosion properties as well as surface treatments such as electroplating, the IM3590 is particularly well suited to characteristic analysis in research and development thanks to functions such as Cole-Cole plot*1 generation and equivalent circuit analysis*2. These capabilities allow the instrument to be used with electrochemical targets to measure characteristics that are invisible to the eye. It delivers basic accuracy of ±0.05%, measurement frequencies from 1 mHz to 200 kHz, and measurement speeds as fast as 2 ms.
*1 Cole-Cole plot: A graphical representation of impedance values measured at various frequencies on a Gaussian plane.
*2 Equivalent circuit analysis: Equivalent circuits are the result of replacing the object under measurement with compound circuits consisting of resistors, capacitors, and inductors. Equivalent circuit analysis is the process of calculating the value of each component in an equivalent circuit.
Definition of an Impedance Analyzer
Impedance analyzers perform sweep measurement to ascertain the characteristics of the object under measurement while continuously varying the measurement frequency and measurement voltage followed by equivalent circuit analysis to calculate the value of each component of which the object under measurement is comprised based on the frequency sweep measurement results.
*Impedance: A measurement of the difficulty with which current flows through an AC circuit, expressed in ohms (Ω).
