The Fluke 376 FC and Fluke 381 are powerful True RMS clamp meters. Each meter includes Fluke's unique iFlex probe which, thanks to the probe's flexibility, allows you to take current measurements up to 2500 A on conductors in tight spaces. Overall, these clamp meters have similar measurement specifications but differ when it comes to special features. Read on below for the full breakdown.
Measurement Capabilities
The Fluke 376 FC can measure voltage up to 1000 V AC/DC as well as current up to 999.9 A AC/DC. Other measurements are also possible including frequency up to 500 Hz, resistance up to 60 kΩ, and capacitance up to 1000 μF. The 376 FC also includes a 500 mV DC measurement range to interface with other accessories as well as min, max, average and in-rush recording functions to capture variations automatically.
On the Fluke 381, you can also measure voltage up to 1000 V AC/DC as well as current up to 999.9 A AC/DC. Frequency and resistance measurements are also the same on the 381 as they are on the 376 FC - you can measure frequency up to 500 Hz and resistance up to 60 kΩ. Unfortunately, Fluke has not published capacitance measurement data on any data sheets or manuals for the 381. The 381 does also feature min, max, average and in-rush recording functions to capture variations automatically.
Special Features
The 376 FC is compatible with the Fluke Connect® system of wireless connected tools. This powerful systems lets you log and trend measurements to pinpoint intermittent faults, transmit results wirelessly via the Fluke Connect® Measurements app, create and send reports right from the field, and capture measurements from safely outside the arc flash zone using Bluetooth connectivity to your Apple or Android devices. Fluke Connect® also lets you record results directly to your phone and the Fluke Cloud™. You can even use Fluke Connect® to create and share reports from the field via email, or converse in real time with ShareLive™ video calls.
The 376 FC also include built-in logging capabilities which are helpful for capturing intermittent faults while performing other tasks. An integrated VFD low pass filter on this meter is also crucial for taking accurate motor drive measurements. Auto shut off and display hold features are also found on this unit in addition to a bright display backlight.
The Fluke 381 is not compatible with the Fluke Connect® system, but it makes up for this with some other unique features. This meter includes wireless technology which allows the display to be detached from the meter and carried up to 30ft away from the point of measurement for added flexibility without interference with measurement accuracy. This removable display is also magnetic and can be conveniently mounted to most metal surfaces. When the display is reconnected to the meter, the wireless transmitter automatically turns itself off. Similar to Fluke Connect®, this feature also lets you capture measurements from safely outside the arc flash zone.
The 381 also includes an integrated low pass filter as well as state of the art signal processing which allows for use in noisy electrical environments while providing stable readings. The 381 also features a bright display backlight.
Safety & Warranty
The 376 FC has been rated to IP30 against water and dust ingress. The meter is also safety rated to CAT III 1000 V and CAT IV 600 V. The 376 FC also includes a standard 3-year warranty.
Fluke has not published the ingress protection rating for the 381 in any of the meter's datasheets or manuals. That said, this meter is also safety rated to CAT III 1000 V and CAT IV 600 V. It also includes a standard 3-year warranty.
