Siglent SDG805 DDS Function Signal Arbitrary Waveform Generator 5MHz

The SDG800 series function/arbitrary waveform generator family output frequencies up to 5MHz (pulse), 10MHz (square), 30MHz (sine) and have a sampling rate of 125MSa/s. They use the SIGLENT EasyPulse technology which produces low jitter, fast rising/falling edges without being affected by frequency, even at low duty cycle settings, allowing the user a wide range of pulse widths and transition times. This results in a much more versatile generator than other similar DDS designs.

Edit arbitrary waveform
Enables edition of 14-bit 16kpts arbitrary output waveforms, Arbitrary editing software EasyWave provides 9 standard waveforms: Sine, Square, Ramp, Pulse, ExRise, ExpFall, Sinc, Noise and DC, which meets all engineers’ basic needs; In addition, it provides plenty of ways of manual drawing, point-to-point line drawing and arbitrary point drawing. It facilitates to create complex waveforms; Multi-file screen management helps users to edit multiple-waveform simultaneously. It provides 10 Storage in non-volatile RAM. You can edit and store more waveforms by EasyWave.

Arbitrary waveform output
Built-in 46 arbitrary waveforms(include DC), including math, engineering and other commonly-used waveforms.

Complete set of modulation functions, sweep output, burst output:

Complete set of modulation functions: AM, DSB-AM, FM, PM, FSK, ASK, PWM, the modulation waveform can be observed directly, which it is suitable for education and training;
Sweep output: change output frequency from starting frequency to ending one within sweeping time, Sweeping time range: 1ms~500s. The carrier can be Sine, Square, Triangle and Arbitrary waveforms.
Burst output: It can periodically generate pulse sequence. Internal counter and external control signal are available to control burst output.

Design Features:

SDG800 Series support powerful PC editing software EasyWave, which can output arbitrary waveform featured 14bit vertical resolution and 16Kpts wave length. EasyWave provides 9 standard waveforms: Sine, Square, Ramp, Pulse, ExRise, ExpFall, Sinc, Noise and DC, which meet all engineers’ basic needs. In addition, it provides a variety of draw modes like manual drawing, straightline drawing(including horizontal straightline, vertical straightline, point-to-point straightline), coordinate drawing and equation drawing, making it easy to create complex waveforms. Multiple Document Interface management makes simultaneous multiple-waveform editing. SDG800 Series provides 10 nonvolatile storage spaces for arbitrary waveforms, and you can also edit and store more waveforms through EasyWave software.

Adjustment Handle
When using the instrument, SDG800 permits users to adjust the handle to a needed position which make it easier to operate and observe.

User Interface

SDG800 can only display one channel’s parameters and waveform. The picture below shows the interface when choosing sine waveform. The interface will have some difference when current function is different.

Current Function
Display current function name. For example: “sine” shows that sine waveform function is being chosen.
Waveform Display Area
It shows each channel’s current waveform.
Frequency
It shows each channel’s current waveform’s frequency. After press corresponding Freq menu, use number keys or knob to change the parameter value.
Amplitude
It shows each channel’s current waveform’s amplitude. After press corresponding Ampl menu, use number keys or knob to change the parameter value.
Offset
It shows each channel’s current waveform’s DC offset. After press corresponding Offset menu, use number keys or knob to change the parameter value.
Phase
It shows each channel’s current waveform’s phase value. After press corresponding Phase menu, use number keys or knob to change the parameter value.
Load
It shows each channel’s load scheme. High Resistance: display “Hi-Z” Load: display default “50Ω”
Menu
It shows the corresponding operation menu of the current function which is being chosen. For example: the picture above shows the function menu of “Sine” waveform.

happy with the purchase. Tequipement team was very professionnal and the generator is working as described. the only downside is that I'm trying to make the trigger work and I can't and the documentation is poor about this specific feature. otherwise that would be a 5 stars

It does so much more than my limited knowledge/experience can comprehend.

Great instrument! Excellent build quality -- nothing feels cheap on this unit. Nice bright color LCD display and for the most part the menus and user interface are pretty intuitive. Fanless and silent yet runs cool.

This only costs a bit more than the 1970's era HP analog signal generators on ebay -- and those boat anchors can't do all the modulation, burst, and arbitrary functions that the SDG80x units can.

If you only need a single output signal generator it's hard to beat the SDG805 at this price point.

Solid units for the bench or field

We have the SDG805 (5MHz) and the SDG830 (30MHz). They are both units and pack a lot of bang for the buck.

The LCD display is sharp and easy to read. I have even used it in direct sunlight outside without any difficulty.

The interface is simple. We appreciate that because these instruments aren't used daily. So not having to read the manual or hunt for some parameter makes things easier.

One feature I especially like is the programmable DC output. We have written software using the communications interface that generates square waves to test a product of ours. That product also has analog inputs for measuring DC. Using the DC output of the Siglent, we can test both inputs to our product with only one instrument. Very slick!

We have not used the ARB functionality, so I can't comment on it.

We will be buying more as our needs arise. I just wish that Siglent made a nice modern universal counter too.

Great bang for the buck

I've been looking for a decent value in a Function Generator, looking for something to match the ones in the school labs, and this seems to be it. I've barely scratched the surface of it so far, but it seems fairly intuitive to use, does modulation and sweep, and the high-z mode seems really handy. No complaints.

I'm only a hobbyist/occasional user but I find this function generator very easy to use. I have so far mostly used it for some simple experiments and debugging of basic circuits but it just works. I haven't experienced any issues with it.
