I’ve been out of electronics for a while and remember the old scopes we used when I studied engineering. This scope is miles ahead in terms of its measurement capabilities. My only critism would be not having the time to learn/use all of its features. Very pleased with the purchase and the customer service Tequipment provides.

This is a great scope
5.0
What surprised me the most at first was the weight, it may be shallow but in my head this rings "quality power supply".
Packaging was really good.
It came with a calibration certificate.
The display is big and nice and there are tons of features, granted I'm replacing a 50 years old 40MHz analog scope and all these features are standard on digital scopes.
On the negative: you need both hands to attach the provided probes somewhere(you can't hold the probe with your thumb and 2 fingers, maybe I can just 3d print an adapter for this), I find the fan a bit noisy, and the SPI decoding is useless with only 2 channels, SPI really requires 4 inputs.

incredible quality/price ratio

2072A has really incredible quality for the price. And with free option bundle (will last till end of December, 2015) it becomes totally invaluable.
It is mature product with most of previously known issues polished.
Cooler fan is quite noticeable in a room (and sadly it's true for all Rigol products) so probably will replace it with silence model.
Rotating selector knob and menu hierarchy - not a most intuitive thing but seems I got used to it after few days.
So Rigol - keep quality so high and prices so reasonable and release more new and fancy instruments using cutting edge of technology. I'm your fan =)

Fantastic piece of equipment

After being used to some low-end oscilloscopes at my University, this feels like a major step up. The screen size is great and navigation is intuitive.
I really like the deep memory on the scope - it's useful to take a single shot waveform and really zoom in to see the detail.
I've taken a cursory look at the waveform capture feature, and although I've had nothing to put it through its paces yet, it will definitely be useful at some point.
The fan is a bit noisy, but I'm not one to complain about that. Just be aware if it would bother you.

Not totally satisfied
3.0
As a former Tektronix test engineer, who wrote oscilloscope performance test programs, I know a little about scopes.
I needed a low cost bench scope in my office for general purpose needs, and I wanted one with a physical front panel, which ruled out a using a usb based scope. Other than the negatives which I will only highlight, the scope offers features and performance which make it worth the money.
Cons: 1. Some descriptions, mention low noise, but it is not specified well in publications. In fact the analog pre-amp is low in uncorrelated noise, which shows up when using the sensitive input settings. But when you increase the volts/div setting the white noise stays at about 2 lsb of the 8 bit converter, thus rendering the 8 bit digitizer to only 6 bits. I have not confirmed this with effective bits calulation or measurement, but the realistic effect is that the trace has a "fat" component which masks low level detail, and is much worse than any of my other digital oscilloscopes. I have gone over this problem with the Rigol techs, and it does seem to be inherent in the design.
2. The probes supplied are cheap and do not grab well , and the ground clips fail to open very wide, and will not grab thin wire because the jaws are sloppy.
3. The user interface has some weaknesses. I would call some of the idiosyncrasies, real sw bugs. Due to the complexity of the interface, it can be hard to duplicate the sequence of setting to duplicate any hiccups that occur. But when it happens, I'am busy and don't have time to document them. But suffice the setting can go awry at times, requiring some sort of reset.
4. Fan noise is too high. The only positive about the fan is , I know when the scope is on without looking.
Fact is , I have work to do on designing a digitally controlled motor, and this scope has been very useful for that .

Perfect Advanced Hobbyist Scope
5.0
I had initially purchased a Rigol DS1052 but ended up trading up to this DS2072A and I am sure glad that I did. The screen is more than large enough to fit all of the information that you need about your signals. I don't really have any test equipment that can put this thing through its paces, but it seems to be reasonably accurate.
I like the fact that this thing comes with trials of the advanced features that you can add on at a later time. It lets you try them out before you decide that you need them or not. I do with though that instead of just counting down the time that you just have the scope on that instead it would only count down when you are using the feature. Luckily it gives you plenty of time that you can try all of them out (advanced triggers, serial decoding, extra memory).
Sometimes I find it a bit difficult to remember where all of the adjustments and functions are because they are split across multiple menus, but you get used to it after a while and have no trouble finding them.
Having never owned an oscilloscope before, I am thoroughly impressed with this scope given its lower price. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is an advanced hobbyist or student.

But it is still a great value compared to a Tek or Agilent.

Fan on my machine is very quiet. HW 2.0, FW 00.03.00 SP1 easily upgraded to FW 00.03.03 SP1. Wish I could change the color of CH2, Green would be so much better than Cyan. Perhaps in a future FW update. The screen is incredibly clear, even for my bad eyes. Tons of high quality features. Love it!

wow for the quality, really good product for the money, i was tempted to purchase the more expensive 4000 series but again it costs nearly double.
i needed a four channel scope and the only affordable option was DS1074Z but the specs wasn't to my liking...so i'm good with 2 channels for now.
if you already watched the Martin's review on Youtube,he reviewed this osci. with version 2 firmware and demonestrated that the waveform update rate is actually about 47,000 not 50,000 as per the specs.
hold on, my osci. came with revision 3 firmware and I the same expriment as martin did and weeeee i could get 66,000 waves/sec on my frequency counter.
so now Rigol is ahead of Agilent again, and cheaper.
I couldn't possibly be happier with my purchase.

Great feature packed oscilloscope
5.0
I zeroed in on the DS2072A after spending some time researching oscilloscopes for my home workbench. The DS2072A nicely bridges a huge gap between the cheap brands and the low-end of the big players (Agilent, Tektronix). The DS2072A is packed with all of the features I would need in an oscilloscope and the performance specs are superb. The build quality feels satisfyingly sturdy and the unit is quite hefty, in a good way.
I would have knocked this rating down half a star for some minor grievances if I could, but since I can't, I don't have the heart to knock it down to 4 stars. One grievance, which had concerned me before I bought, is that the user interface is noticeably slow. Happily, the degree of lag I've experienced is far better than that which I would have lost the patience to tolerate (compare to, say, any common bad touch screen UI *shudder*). Finally, some of the menu items seem klunky upon initial feel. For example, the cursors function felt like it takes one or two button presses more than it should. I have no doubt that the menus will feel comfortable after some more use, though.
All in all, I think I'm going to be satisfied with this oscilloscope for as long as it will serve me. The deep memory and high sampling rate were very attractive at this price. I'm content to report that these performance characteristics come without sacrificing features, build quality, nor UI usability.

Rigol 2072A
5.0
The 2072A is a solid scope and definitely a step up from the entry Rigol line. By using the pulse width trigger I was able to completely characterize the I2C performance of a product under development and to detect a timing spec violation. That alone was worth the cost difference from the entry Rigol scopes.
The memory depth, large display and math functions all contribute to the value of this scope. Screen capture is easily done using the free Rigol Utilities (RUU) available for download on the EEVblog forum.
The menus take a bit of getting used to, but this is typical of any of today's feature-laden scopes. If you have used any modern scope then the learning curve isn't bad. So give this scope a look if you are in the market for a DSO / DPO.

Very good oscilloscope with lots of possibilities
4.0
This is my experience after owning the scope four weeks. There are numerous settings available and measurements which can be done. It takes several hours to check them all out, unfortunately this time is deducted from the 2000 minutes of free options, it is not 2000 minutes when using an option, as it simply counts the "on" time of the scope. I experimented a little with the RS232 decoding option by sending 6 to 8 characters at a time, however I could only get as a maximum the last two characters decoded, as the screen is filled with more than two, it will of course show the wave forms, but not the decoding anymore.Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
My equipment is placed on a shelf about 1 1/2 ft above the workbench (a very common installation) and with that setup I noticed that the display really washes out quite a lot when looking to it from below sitting on a chair. Viewed from above everything is fine. This is something Rigol really should look at in the future by using a better display. That said, this scope is an amazing value for the possibilities it provides and I love working with it.

Great value for the price
4.0
This scope is really nice. I especially like the bus decoding feature for RS232, SPI and I2C.
Although I bought the scope for personal use, I brought it with me to work the last time I had to debug a circuit.
What is an advantage to a logic analyzer is that you can see whether something is wrong with the signal, like ringing or that kind of stuff. A logic analyzer can't show you this.
Of course a logic analyzer is still helpful if you need to watch more than 2 channels, but if you're not sure whether your problem is "analog" or "digital", then the scope is the right choice.
The Firmware could need some improvement at some places (this gives -1 star). For example the decoding only works properly in "stop" mode, but the decoded symbols are also shown in run mode. So either switch of the decoded symbols in run mode, or fix decoding in run mode. Either shouldn't be too difficult.
The PC software (another -0.5 star) could also be a little bit better. But in the EEVBlog Forum a user published a nice PC Tool to transfer data and take screenshots.
The screen is good. The noise is okay, it could be a bit quieter. However I know many more expensive measurement gear which is much louder than this one.
Overall I can recommend the device. I really enjoy it.

Rigol DS2072A
4.0
I've given this device four stars simply because I haven't had enough time to really dig into it and work with it.
I chose this unit because it had many of the features I liked over the less expensive models. I'm working with tube amplifiers and other so-called antique equipment, so my needs are not the cutting edge for equipment. Take that as you will, this unit is solidly constructed. While it does not have an incredibly high-end feel that you would expect from a premium scientific device, it does have solid controls that respond well. I like that it is constructed adequately and does not take up that much space on my bench.
There is a learning curve with a device of this type. It has many, many functions and capabilities that are explained in the electronic documentation that comes with the unit.
On the tests that I've conducted and the minor work that I've done with it so far, the measurements were accurate. What more can a person ask for? It's a solid unit with a ton of functions and capabilities at a price that's under $1000. I'm happy with the purchase and have no problem recommending it to someone in the market.
Also, Tequipment shipped it quickly and with no hassle. So stop reading this and just buy the thing already - you'll be happy you did.
