Great value
4.0
I needed a decent function generator. I already had a RIGOL scope
so I looked at the DG1022. However, the more expensive DG1022Z had an Arb function and I could connect to the RIGOL scope. So that's what I bought and it turned out great. I can save a waveform on the scope as a REF and read it on the arb (hook up the included USB cable to the back of the scope). Only complaints are that I cannot figure out how to save the waveform I captured from the scope into the DG1022Z's memory. The RIGOL PC SW (UltrStation and UltraScope) need more work and better documentation but really what would you expect for the low price. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Great Addition to the Hobbyist Lab
4.0
I am a hobbyist with a passionate interest in learning about electronics, especially in the area of micro-controllers like the Arduino. I was having issues in determining why my circuit components and software code provided results different from what I expected, so I read a book about establishing your own Electronics Workshop and an oscilloscope and signal generator were two of the first items suggested.
I struggled with getting the Rigol DS-1054Z to behave as I expected since it is probably more complicated to configure than a beginner is able to noodle, but combined with this DG-1022Z, things get a little more approachable.
First, I hardly needed to read anything to get started. When powered-on, this unit comes up with two sine waves on the display. It does not output them until you hit the Output button, so I had to turn the unit on and hit Output. Pretty easy so far.
Second, using the provided BNC cable with a workshop tee splitter and 50-ohn terminator, I jumpered the DG-1022Z to the DS-1054Z but didn't see anything expected. So, I hit Auto on the oscilloscope and the magic happened. (I have read several tips and techniques posts that say never hit Auto, but in this case, it helped.)
Third, I am now off to using the DG-1022Z to drive some LEDs for a project so I can see the "perfect signal" output versus the "custom Arduino" output and make appropriate component adjustments.
A couple of points. The only included cables are AC cord, USB A/B, and one BNC-BNC. It would be good to have a BNC-to-clip cable and I had to order two after the unit arrived and that delayed my progress a little. Also, the form factor for the Function Generator and the Oscilloscope and significantly different so you don't have a stacking option to speak of with them together. It would be nice to find a pair that would stack or even have snap-together mounting options.
These seem to be in and out of stock a bit and mine took awhile to get here, whereas the oscilloscope was here in two or three days from order date. All in all, I'm very pleased with the product. I do not see instructions for firmware updates, but I'm certain I'll find that as I explore my new tool.

Pretty good AWG for the price
4.0
I will admit, I already had an Instek function gen, but got this one also since it had a higher bandwidth and a lot more buttons.
Rigol has made a huge splash on the lower end of the test equipment market lately. I'm sure it's in no small part due to their time making oscilloscopes for Agilent.
In any case, this is a really good AWG for the money. The specs are on par if not better than anything else in this price range. The user interface is OK, but sometimes it seems a little convoluted; certainly something you'll soon become accustomed to.

Rigol DG1022Z
4.0
Positive:
* Both Channels work great from 1Hz - 25MHz no problem on Sine waves.
* Easy to use: Voltage Scale and Time Scale
* AM/FM Integration
Negatives:
* Both Channels work semi great from 1Hz - 25MHz on Square and Ramp. Its maximum freq is actually smaller than 25MHz but the generator allows it to be over it which does not make sense. Ideally if you try and set it to 25MHz the wave is distorted.
* One BNC Cable is sent. No Probes or Nothing beyond that.
* This is an Arb Generator so the waveform on some freq may not look the best in some modes. I wish the Arb generator had better sine wave points (not critical to operation).

Excellent Value

I have not had a chance to try the arb function or test its interoperability with the Rigol DS1054Z oscilloscope, but I have used the unit to generate test patterns for an FPGA. For the money, this unit is a great value. Controls are very intuitive and I have yet to open the manual. The only negative I noticed is that the rise/fall times look a little slow compared to more expensive units. When I select a 20 MHz square wave, it outputs essentially a distorted sine wave. This is not a factor for my needs, however

Ease of use

Our interest was primarily remote control of the DG1022Z. Remote programming has been quick and easy using our own software (C#). The price versus capabilities of this waveform generator is impressive. Reason for four stars instead of five: The main drawback so far has been the ability to synchronize and/or simultaneously trigger the two channels using software. Otherwise it would get five stars.
