Fantastic unit
5.0
Having been a Weller user for decades, I decided to give this next level unit a try. I have to say soldering with this is a joy. The T12 tips with the integrated heating element really does make a difference. Consistent, reliable heat makes for easy work, the pencil is comfortable, and the base unit has some really nice features. I do especially like the sleep mode. Wish I had bought one a long time ago!

Good kit but should have 1 tip included
4.0
Good:
Compact comes with almost everything you need to start right away. Everything is well packed and arrived intact.
Bad:
At this price you'd think they would include a tip as well, I only wanted one to verify it could solder correctly out of the box.
I would end buying other tips anyway, and just did for specific tasks. That is my only gripe about it.

Probably a little too high priced for my purposes but I'm so glad I purchased this thing. It heats up quickly, has a sleep mode when paired with the iron stand and displays the current temperature. Also the tips are super easy to change out even without having let the tip cool, especially with an extra sleeve. I love it.

Amazing soldering station
5.0
I watched a great number of reviews for soldering stations and decided to settle with this one. It is amazing for the price! The user interface could be better and I probably would find it annoying if I was changing temperatures frequently but the interface is satisfactory for my application. It takes about 10-15 seconds to heat up to 600-700 F. The adjustable sleep timer is amazing. The ample number of tips available is another great feature. The build quality seems very solid and I expecting the station to last me quite a few years.

Heats up very rapidly. Comfortable. Separate stand from the base is a must. Tip holder is metal and heavy so it doesn't fall over. I thought I wouldn't like the older style interface but it's not bad at all unless you're constantly changing temperature. The auto sleep functionality is great to have but it doesn't always initiate for me when I put the iron in the stand. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best soldering stations, but I would recommend for overborder sellings that your item to have the country specific plug and voltage, as not all of the countries are using 110v or USA plug which means there were some extra things that had to be bought like : Transformer / UK plug in order to be used. Overall the product is great OEM, hope it will last for a while :)
I would also recommend sending Hakko station with Celsius temperature and not Fahrenheit. Thanks

I recently upgraded to Hakko after using Tenma irons. This thing is MILES above my Tenma. Tip selection is amazing. Tip life should be longer since the iron goes into sleep mode (this is a feature I didn't have on the Tenma). Iron beeps when it's up to temp and ready to use. My only complaint is the user interface but I rarely change temps so it's not a big deal.

Good iron
5.0
This is my third Hakko that uses these tips. It will replace the perfectly good 202 that we've been using for 8 or 10 years because we need a second workstation and because I want the primary workstation to have sleep mode so the tips last longer. It looks like an almost perfect upgrade to the 202. The one feature I've asked Hakko for a few time it an alarm when you take the iron out and it's cold and they still only have one to tell you it's hot. I always assume it's hot so I don't need to be told that, but if I walk away and return I want to to beep when I take it out so I don't try to solder with a cold iron. But that is literally my only criticism and it's a pretty minor one given the speed of recovery.

Itβs difficult to find anything negative to say about this soldering station. It heats up quickly and I love how easy it is to change tip temperatures. It offers a huge selection of soldering tipsβalmost too manyβand the quick-change feature for the tips is outstanding. The hand piece is very light and comfortable to hold.
The Sleep mode is a really nice feature. Because the soldering tip comes back up to the set temperature so quickly, utilizing the Sleep mode does not slow you down at all.
This has nothing to do with performance but the soldering station looks good on the bench, too.

Hakko, you make soldering fun!
5.0
I have a 40 plus year history of soldering which started before I was 10 years old. The early years were cheap 30 or 40 watt soldering irons from radio Shack or Canadian Tire that did the job, but were clumsy about doing it. But they were cheap, and I was a kid, then later a young adult.
About 17 years ago I graduated to my first soldering station - a very simple Weller unit - a 40 watter with a simple variable temperature control. This was a huge improvement over the simple irons. About 5 years ago I upgraded to a Hakko FX-888 - another huge improvement over the Weller. And now, I just bought a Hakko FX951-66 - yet another leap forward. By the way, I have my FX-888 packed up in a Pelican 1200 case which makes a very portable soldering station for "on the go" work as I never want to solder with a simple iron again.
I also have a couple Hakko de-soldering tools - a portable one and a huge metal box one for the workbench.
The Hakko FX951-66 has superb temperature control - so good that I can turn the temperature down to a modest 600 degrees F without fear of cold solder joints, even on PCB ground planes, soldering chassis mount jacks etc. At this lower temp the tip stays so much cleaner. I love the sleep mode and heat recovery from sleep to awake is very fast - about 5 seconds. Tip changes are easy and simple - allowing one to use the right tip for various stages of a job, rather than picking a compromise tip which will sort of work for everything. The soldering iron portion is light and easy to control - the glowing red LED ring a reminder its on.
Tequipment is great to deal with as well, one or two items I selected were out of stock and I was able to easily alter my order so I could get it shipped right away.
The FX951-66 is a great mid-end professional soldering station which makes a high-end soldering station for a serious hobbyist.
If the FX951-66 is beyond your budget, the FX-888 is an awesome value - and if you later upgrade, the FX-888 can make a great "portable" soldering station.

I purchased the Hakko FX951 from TEquipment.net and as usual had a great experience. I am very happy with my purchase and I am giving the product 5 stars. There are however a few minor areas that could use improvement. The printed manual needs a little more information and not being able to activate both the sleep and shut-off modes at the same time. Overall I really like this solder station and think it is reasonably priced. I have done a review on my YouTube channel jwrelectro of this item. https://youtu.be/YYZs_pewRd4

I bought this station after considering both Metcal and JBC. While everyone seems to love the JBC, I just couldn't justify the price difference between it and the Hakko. Also, I've never had ANY issues with Hakko equipment, and their customer service is awesome. So, I bought it, and have loved it so far. It's a great step up from the "consumer" level FX-888(D) and my old 936. I only wish the beeper wasn't quite so piercing. =)

My old Weller station has been a great workhorse. But with SMD's getting ever smaller it was time to update.
After a lot of research, I chose this unit. First Hakko station I've ever owned, and I'm very pleased. The controls are straightforward, the tip selection is vast, and the performance is excellent. I especially like the sleep mode. The cost of tips can add up, and having the iron automatically lower its temperature to protect the tips is very nice.
The only caveat is that I could not find an option for an SMD tweezer set that would work with this station. I preferred everything else about this unit, so in the end I decided that if I need tweezers in the future I'll just get another base station to power them.
Highly recommended.

This is a really worthwhile upgrade from the FX-888D. I have a couple of those and they're a terrific value, but the added features on the FX-951 are really worth it in my opinion.
* The tips can be changed really easily, even when hot. This was a bit of a problem on the 888D.
* The grip-to-tip distance is significantly shorter. This allows greater control of the tip, especially when working with surface mount and other small-scale items.
* The sleep function is fabulous. I was always switching off the 888D when I wasn't sure I'd be using it on another joint in less than a minute. The 951 goes right into sleep mode and temperature reduces to below solder molten temperature. No more tip oxidation worries :)
* Comes up to temperature fast. From cold it's quick enough to wait for, maybe 15 seconds. From sleep it's fast enough to not notice, single-digit seconds.
* Heat recovery is excellent. I used to set the temperature up and down quite a bit based on the heat capacity of the joint -- soldering to a ground plane or whatever. Now I just leave it on 320C and it handles everything without fuss.
* The CF3 and CF2 tips are terrific for drag soldering surface mount ICs. This was the feature that initially sold me. If you get the flux right, these tips just make it look easy.

Great Product

I have to ding this a star as the included paper manual lacked the section on configuring the device and on the reset button combination. (* Up Down then turn on power with key card inserted.)
This station uses a low thermal mass tip and makes up for it by rapidly pulsing the 70W heater inside the tip. An excellent job is done maintaining tip temperature.
My previous iron was a 120V self regulated ceramic iron of the highest quality. I find my soldering quality has improved with the 951. De-soldering has particularly improved with how quickly the iron recovers when the plunger tip makes contact.
Buy this one. Download the complete manual. Be happy.

Very happy with my purchase
5.0
I just received my FX-951. I also ordered 5 tips, 4 extra sleeves and a spare brass curl. I still think the color scheme is cheesy looking but the station itself is great. The tips come to temp from cold start in just over 16 seconds, about half of my 936. The wand is very comfortable to hold and I feel I have better control with the tip being closer to my hand than my 936. I like the instantaneous sleep, I would have changed it to that if it wasn't the default. The sleeves are a bit hard to remove from the wand but at least I know that the lock up is solid. The fast wake up from sleep is nice, almost instantaneous. Even after 5 minutes in the cradle, it only took 6.5 seconds to come to temperature. The only thing I am not sure of is the beep. I may disable it. Honestly, I wish I could have afforded a JBC. But, the basic unit was $170 more than what I paid for everything and that didn't include all the extra tips I bought. Only 1 of the 2 tips the JBC comes with would have been useful to me, so to have the same tips I have, total price would have been over $300 more. Am I disappointed? Not in the least. This will serve me admirably for years to come.

This iron works great for light use, but I work at a contract manufacturing plant, and we have dozens of these, and I am constantly cleaning their contacts. The contacts in the handles and on the tips develop burn marks and lose contact causing a failure to heat and lots of annoying beeping. Best Solder Station for the Money Hakko FX951
5.0
If you are just getting into electronics repair and are thinking of saving a few dollars and getting a cheaper Brand from China or elsewhere, do your self a favor and save time and money and buy this product. I know from experience and buying a cheap one at first, you will get frustrated and wonder what you are doing wrong and get very discouraged and may want to even give up. That's where I was until I did some research in some great forums and decided to order the Hakko FX951 from TEquipment for a very great price I might add. I received my Solder station and 2 of the tips I ordered within 7 days. I had to wait a few more days to get the 3rd tip and a thermal coupler for my Rework Station. I was like a little kid on Christmas when it arrived and opened and setup the unit right away. It was very easy to setup the only bad thing was the instructions for settings could be better. The first thing I wanted to try was cleaning a motherboard after I lifted a graphics chip. I was so Impressed with how much better the solder station worked than my Chinese version. It holds heat great and with these Hakko tips solder wick just glides along and doesn't stick. I also did some soldering on very small parts and loved how comfortable the handle is to hold and use. The cord is very flexible and doesn't kink and twist like my old one did.
I recommend this Hakko FX951 to anyone getting started or wanting to upgrade to a better solder station, its well worth every penny I spent on it.
In closing I know the page describing the unit states it doesn't come with a tip, they should charge $12.00- 16.00 more and let you choose between a few tips because unless you are buying this as a replacement, you can't use it without a tip.
Thanks TEquipment & Hakko

Just a great soldering station at a great value here. I put a T15-D2, and it seems it will work for just about everything on a PCB except the tiniest of surface mounts. It heats up and changes temperature almost instantly. The temperature seems accurate, although I have not measured it. I only have the stock pen, but it seems nimble enough for everything. One can hold it comfortably close to the tip. Just a pleasure to use. If you are soldering anything that is remotely valuable, this is reliable. I only have a less expensive weller with which to compare, but this was light years beyond that.
