After paying $40 each over the past decade for solder pots that lasted from a few months to a few years, I decided to shell out for a nice version from Hakko in hope it would be more economical in the long run. I dislike tossing things into the trash and was pleased to see replacement parts offered. I suspect that this will be a more expensive choice ultimately, but I feel good about the decision regardless based on quality & safeness of product.I chose the analogue model based on price. It took me a few sessions of admittedly frustrating trial and error to dial in the setting that I need for stripping/tinning #20 thru #32 gauge wire. Due to a relatively large volume of solder, the pot is very slow to heat on this setting. Consequently, I learned to crank the knob for 20 or so minutes before reducing the power to the desired level. I like the square shape of the pot insert over the round pots I have used in the past since I can scrape a troublesome lead against the side to rid it of a stubborn bit of dross that might be sticking to it.There isn't much to dislike other than the item is not US made. I would have instead bought the comparable American Beauty pot had it fit my needs better.I don't know if I am supposed to review Tequipment here, but will state that there are no complaints. Prior to ordering, I had some questions that were answered promptly and comprehensively by Bethany at customer service. She even took the time to send me a follow up answer after doing additional research about flux.
