I used this micro pencil hand piece along with the T30-KN tip I bought to do some logic board repairs this past weekend and it worked great! While this doesn't have the foam rubber insulators that the larger iron does, I didn't really notice it getting all that hot to hold which I was pleasantly surprised with.

The FM2032 has an excepcional performance, not only for micro soldering also for normal soldering, you can do everything as long as you have the right tips.
The T30-D tips are recommended for normal soldering, the T30-I is the smallest one, and the T30-J is in between, ideal for dragging but also the area for dragging can be use for normal soldering purposes.
On the other hand, having the holder putting the iron in sleep mode it is a BIG deal and will help your tips last longer.

This is my first Hakko soldering station. For years I have used similar but inferior soldering stations from Asian manufacturers. They all seemed to have more features and bells and whistles but the irons were terrible and they didn't last very long. Going cheap with tools proves "penny wise and a pound foolish" isn't true when it comes to investing in professional craftsmanship and performance. I don't think I'll ever get past the "play dough" look of blue and yellow but it's a fantastic unit. I actually purchased the unit to use the Hakko micro soldering iron and it does, perfectly. Right out of the box, the heavy weight of the small unit tells you there is something substantial inside. With Hakko, it's true: "often imitated but never copied"!

Easily the best attachment for the Hakko system

The standard iron works well, but the micro iron is much better. It is more comfortable to hold because it is smaller diameter.
The thinner cord does not feel as heavy when doing fine work. With the normal iron I felt like the cord was in the way, but this one does not have that problem. I don't plan on buying any more trip for my full sized iron after using this.
