Pilot Rod for Deploying Multi-Depth Soil Moisture Sensors, 28-inch
The HOBO PILOT-ROD4 is a 28-inch pilot rod for deploying three- and four-segment multi-depth soil moisture sensors. It is used with a slide hammer (sold separately - Part # SLIDE-HAMMER) for quick and easy deployment of the HOBO multi-depth soil moisture sensors.
By creating a hole with the same profile and size as the soil moisture sensor being deployed, the PILOT-ROD4 eliminates the need to excavate and backfill holes. The pilot rod threads onto the slide hammer (sold separately), which drives the rod into the soil creating the required profile. After removing the rod, the soil moisture sensor can be pushed into the soil easily. Once the sensor is deployed, the soil will relax around it, filling any gaps and establishing the contact needed for accurate soil moisture measurements.
