Handy for testing 4-20 ma sensors in the system. We use both 4-20 ma pressure sensors and temperature sensors in BMS systems. This gives a very quick measurement of any problems. Much easier than putting a voltmeter across the 500-ohm resistor. The big plus is you can make the measurement either at the sensor or the control point without disturbing the system. Happy we finally broke down and bought it.

Great T/S Tool

This is a great tool for troubleshooting and moinitoring intermittent problems on relatively slow 4-20 loops. It only measures at 1s intervals, so keep that in mind, and only 65k measurements which ends up about 18 hours of logging. Other than that limitation, it’s a great tool.

Compact and high quality

My background: I am a senior controls technician for Siemens Industry and I have been doing this for a decade. I regularly require the use of an instrument to verify, calibrate, or configure 4-20 control signals coming from or going to end devices. I own the Fluke 773, and it is an outstanding piece of calibration equipment. It not only performs 4-20 tasks, but also voltage as well. I have had that tool for at least 3 years, and it continues to perform flawlessly. I purchased this A3004-FC meter because I was wanting a more compact variant that could perform just the measurement aspect of 4-20 loops. It is doubly useful because I can be checking voltage from with my CNX 3000 multimeter while also displaying the measured amperage from this one. Very handy, very accurate, and it includes the t-pak magnet hang strap. Wrap all that up with a price tag of less than half that of the 773, and you have a winner.
