Mini Clamp Meter with Temperature - A Solid Performer in the Field or a Great Backup Meter - SC45
The Mini Clamp Meter with Temperature for HVACR professionals, model SC45, incorporates a lot of big meter functions into a compact, easy to use design. While it’s not exactly an all-in-one multimeter, this manual and auto ranging DMM includes most of the ranges you use in HVACR everyday. Along with standard multimeter ranges, we designed the SC45 to include capacitance (MFD) and temperature with great compensation. And to add to that, we designed it with built-in non-contact voltage and a continuity beeper to give you a powerful HVACR meter that’s under 8-inches tall. Makes a great backup or a solid performer for everyday testing.
The Fieldpiece SC45 Mini Clamp Meter with Temperature for HVAC/R has features and benefits of many full-size meters in a design that is only 8-inches tall. The built-in non-contact voltage sensor (NCV) sensor tells the user if a line is hot or not before they work on it. The continuity beeper tells the user if a circuit is open or closed. The Fieldpiece SC45 also features the hold button on the side of the SC45, which allows the user to concentrate on the test point, hold the reading and then look at the display after the Fieldpiece SC-45 is disconnected.
Features and Benefits
Like all of our test instruments, the main benefit of the Fieldpiece SC-45 is that it was designed specifically for HVAC/R field service. The Fieldpiece SC45 Mini Clamp Meter with Temperature for HVAC/R is rugged, has with built-in safety features and includes most of the ranges the user needs for everyday testing. Some of the highlights include:
Temperature
Take ambient air or refrigeration line temperatures and more with the built-in K-type port and the included ATB1 wrap tab thermocouple. Add a wet sock, saturated tissue, or a shoelace to take wet bulb temperatures. The built-in temperature junction offers great temperature compensation for more accurate and faster measurements.
400AAC
Using the attached amp clamp of the Fieldpiece SC45, read 0-400 amps directly on your meter with 0.1 resolution.
Wire Grabbing Jaw
The amp clamp is shaped like a jaw to make grabbing a single wire easy using only one hand.
Non-contact Voltage
With the NCV tab on the tip of the clamp close to an AC voltage, press and hold the NCV button pn the Fieldpiece SC45. The NCV LED will light with an analog feel and the beeper will beep. The closer the user gets to AC voltage, the louder the beep will be on the Fieldpiece SC 45. The NCV function is sensitive enough to detect 24VAC on thermostats (24V to 600V, 50Hz to 60Hz).
Hold
The HOLD button is easily pressed with the thumb while holding the mini clamp meter naturally in the user's hand. The Fieldpiece SC-45 holds any reading so the user can concentrate on the test points and look at the LCD after being disconnected.
The Fieldpiece SC45 Mini Clamp Meter's dial is easy to operate with one hand. Fieldpiece SC45's compact design allows you to select the range the user's need using one finger or thumb and get the job done fast.
How Does it Work?
The SC45 dial is easy to operate with one hand. It’s compact design allows you to select the range you need using one finger or thumb and get the job done fast. Be sure to refer to the Operator’s Manual for safety information and warnings and use safe testing practices when hooking up your multimeter to any refrigeration or heating system.
Selecting Ranges
For DC voltage, set the Fieldpiece SC44 Mini Clamp Meter for HVAC/R to the VDC parameter instead of VAC. For all ranges, the user will choose a range just above the value you expect. If display reads "OL" (overload), select a higher range. If display shows less than three numbers, select a lower range for better resolution.
Like the SC44, the SC45 includes a range button. A lot of technicians tell us they like that you have to think about what you’re hooking up to before you test.
To switch to manual ranging mode, simple press the range button (looks like a two-ringed bulls eye) and hold for about two seconds until the symbol appears in the upper left of the LCD.
For DC voltage, set the meter to the VDC parameter instead of VAC (shown below). For all ranges choose a range just above the value you expect. If display reads “OL” (overload), select a higher range. If display shows less than three numbers, select a lower range for better resolution.
To return to auto ranging mode press and hold the range button again for about two seconds.
