Sharp Thermal Imaging
The FLIR T-Series features some of the company's most capable and fully-featured infrared cameras. As one of the top models in the Series, the T640bx is no exception. The T640bx features a broad temperature range of -40°F to 3,632°F as well as a high thermal sensitivity of 30mK. This highly sensitive, wide measurement range makes the T640bx perfect for virtually any inspection applications out there. As a FLIR 'bx" model camera, the T640bx also features FLIR Alarm Alerts. These alarms can be set up to alert users to preset levels of humidity and dew point, as well as areas where in-wall insulation is lacking. The T640bx also features multiple measuring modes including 10 spotmeters, 5 box areas, isotherm, auto hot/cold spot, and Delta T to help you best capture the data you need. The T640bx also includes a live line profile measurement mode.
FLIR T640bx Specifications
UltraMax™ is a powerful super-resolution technology which effectively increases IR image resolution by up to four times while reducing image noise by 50 percent. Measurement accuracy is also increased due to a smaller measurement spot size. UltraMax works by capturing 16 thermal images per second then combining them together in-camera. This feature is available on the T640bx. Read on for a more detailed description.
The T640bx thermal camera features an integrated compass. When active, this device automatically embeds camera pointing direction in thermal images, making it easy to relocate image capture sites.
The T640bx infrared camera also features a built-in GPS device. This device can embed exact location coordinates in thermal images. This makes relocating image capture sites even easier and can save lots of time during inspections.
Certain FLIR infrared cameras feature a viewfinder for easier image capture in bright, outdoor environments where the touchscreen would be hard to see due to glare. The T640bx includes a viewfinder.

FLIR UltraMax is a unique version of super-resolution technology which has the power to increase the native resolution of thermal images by up to 4 times while cutting noise by 50% and also increasing measurment accuracy. This is possible because when active, UltraMax captures 16 IR images per second. When the camera is handheld, images are slightly offset from each other, allowing the technology to combine the images together into one composite image. On the T640bx, this means images go from 640x480 pixel resolution to an impressive 1,280x960 pixel resolution. This pixel increase causes the increase in measurement accuracy. Check the images below for an illustration of how this works.
MSX stands for Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging. This proprietary FLIR technology is a form of image blending or thermal fusion. Unlike other types however, MSX captures IR and visible light images simultaneously. Details are then extracted from the visible light images and embeded directly on IR images in-camera. The resulting images feature IR data as well as visible details like numbers, words, and structural elements. Check the images below for an MSX comparison with a non-MSX image.
The T640bx is a professional tool and as such, was designed for daily use by professionals in demanding environments. The T640bx weighs less than 3 pounds and is comfortably handheld. When handheld, critical shooting buttons like auto and manual focus, zoom, and shutter release are all easily within reach. Additional adjustments including measuring modes, color palettes, and alarm alerts can be made using the 4.3-inch touchscreen via the touch menus. The T640bx also features a unique rotating optics block which is capable of 120 degrees of up and down articulation. This makes shooting easier on the user in tight environments.
The T640bx infrared camera supports wireless communication with mobile devices and certain FLIR and Extech handheld meters.
A Full Line-up of Accessories Gives You Room to Grow
The T640bx infrared camera features a 4.3-inch capacitive LCD touchscreen. From the touchscreen, users can adjust most camera settings and control measurement modes as well as adjust images after capture. The touchscreen also doubles as a viewfinder when framing and capturing images, although a true viewfinder is also integrated into the T640bx. FLIR has also incorporated its Auto Orientation technology into the T640bx, which ensures screen images stay upright no matter the camera's orientation.
The T640bx features a built-in compass and GPS device. These features enable you to embed exact GPS coordinates and camera pointing direction in thermal images. This makes relocating exact image capture sites much easier and saves time during repairs.
With the T640bx, annotations can be made on thermal images in several ways. Text comments can be made using the touchscreen keyboard. Voice annotations can be made using the included Bluetooth headset. Users can also sketch or draw directly on IR images via the touchscreen.
