15˚ Telephoto Lens
Professional IR Quality
The FLIR T640bx is a powerful infrared tool for professionals in building inspection and predictive maintenance fields. The camera features a broad temperature range of -40°F to 3,632°F, thermal sensitivity of 30mK, and 640x480 pixel resolution. These features give the T640bx plenty of capability for most applications. As a top model in the FLIR T-Series, the T640bx includes unique features that other models do not, such as the integrated viewfinder and continuous auto focus mode. Also, as a "bx" model camera, the FLIR T640bx features FLIR Alarm Alerts. These alarms can be set up to alert users to user-defined levels of humidity and dew point, as well as areas where in-wall insulation is lacking. These alarms have the potential to make inspections faster and more comprehensive. This version of the T640bx comes with a 15-degree telephoto lens included.
FLIR T640bx Specifications
UltraMax™ is a powerful super-resolution technology which effectively increases IR image resolution by up to four times while reducing image noise by 50 percent. Measurement accuracy is also increased due to a smaller measurement spot size. UltraMax works by capturing 16 thermal images per second then combining them together in-camera. This feature is available on the T640bx. Read on for a more detailed description.
The T640bx thermal camera features an integrated compass. When active, this device automatically embeds camera pointing direction in thermal images, making it easy to relocate image capture sites.
The T640bx infrared camera also features a built-in GPS device. This device can embed exact location coordinates in thermal images. This makes relocating image capture sites even easier and can save lots of time during inspections.
Certain FLIR infrared cameras feature a viewfinder for easier image capture in bright, outdoor environments where the touchscreen would be hard to see due to glare. The T640bx includes a viewfinder.

FLIR has developed a form of super-resolution technology which is unlike any other. The company calls it UltraMax. While super-resolution technologies like interpolation and pixel averaging have existed for some time, UltraMax is fundamentally different. When active while the T640bx is handheld, UltraMax captures 16 infrared images per second. Due to natural human handheld movement, each image is offset from the others, allowing for the software to combine the images into one composite image in-camera. The resulting composite image has four times the resolution of the T640bx's native images, an increase from 640x480 pixel resolution to an impressive 1,280x960. UltraMax also reduces image noise by up to 50% and, by increasing the number of pixels, actually improves IR accuracy by creating a smaller measurement spot size. The images below illustrate how this technology works.
MSX is a form of image blending or thermal fusion technology which is unique to FLIR. MSX stands for Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging. This dynamic form of imaging is truly multi-spectral because when active, it automatically captures visible light images along with all thermal pictures. High-contrast areas and sharp details including words, numbers, and structural elements are extracted from the visible light images by the software and combined with the corresponding infrared images in-camera. The resulting images blend infrared and visible light, with the option to adjust the blend percentage to dial in images. Take a look at the thermal pictures below for a real comparison of MSX and non-MSX images.
The T640bx is a professional tool with the capability and durability to excel in any environment. Weighing less than three pounds, the T640bx is easily handheld for long periods. When handheld, many critical buttons are right under where the fingers naturally fall, including auto and manual focus, shutter release, and zoom controls. The T640bx also features a rotating optics block, capable of 120 degrees of up and down articulation. This feature makes it easier and more comfortable to capture images in awkward areas which are normally tough to access. The T640bx also includes a built-in viewfinder for easier image framing in outdoor or other bright environments.
The T640bx infrared camera supports wireless communication with mobile devices and certain FLIR and Extech handheld meters.
A Full Line-up of Accessories Gives You Room to Grow
The T640bx infrared camera features a 4.3-inch capacitive LCD touchscreen. This touchscreen serves as a viewfinder when framing and capturing images, although a true viewfinder is included for imaging in bright environments. The touchscreen is also the place where virtually all camera settings can be adjusted via simple touch menus, from measurement modes to color palettes to MSX blending and more. The 4.3-inch screen also allows you to review images after capture. FLIR has also integrated its Auto Orientation technology into the T640bx. This technology keeps screen images and menus upright no matter the camera's orientation.
The T640bx features a built-in compass and GPS device. These features enable you to embed exact GPS coordinates and camera pointing direction in thermal images. This makes relocating exact image capture sites much easier and saves time during repairs.
With the T640bx, annotations can be made on thermal images in several ways. Text comments can be made using the touchscreen keyboard. Voice annotations can be made using the included Bluetooth headset. Users can also sketch or draw directly on IR images via the touchscreen.
As one of the top thermal imaging camera manufacturers on the market, FLIR has a reputation for capable, high-quality tools. A sign of the company's confidence in its tools, FLIR offers a comprehensive warranty for all its infrared cameras called the 10-5-2 warranty. This warranty provides users with extended 10-year coverage on the IR detector, 5 years on field-replaceable batteries, and 2 years on parts and labor.
