About

Wahl was founded in 1953 as a manufacturer of temperature measurement instruments. It is an American company currently based in Asheville, North Carolina. Wahl is best known for developing the first miniature temperature recording label, an inexpensive product that is found throughout the world in thousands of maintenance applications. These were the only NIST-traceable labels available at the time. Wahl then invented the first ever portable digital IR thermometers in 1967. These were the first thermometers to accurately detect surface temperature from a distance. Wahl also created the first thermocouple surface probe and the first universal soldering iron tester during the 1980s.

Wahl was acquired by Palmer in 1997. The combined product line features a range of advanced temperature measurement tools that incorporate the latest technological advances. This merger has also allowed the company to establish joint ventures with respected global manufacturers. With Palmer and Wahl combined into one company, innovation and experience are at an all time high. In fact, in 2006 the company released its first thermal imaging camera to the market, called the HeatSpy. The company has also received several awards over the last few years including Processing Magazine's "Breakthrough Product of the Year" and multiple awards from the Asheville, NC Chamber of Commerce.
