The company's founders created their first test instrument in 1932, and the company was founded in 1933. The company has remained independent and family-owned since its founding. In the last 80 years Rohde & Schwarz has developed groundbreaking products such as the first  direction finder for air travel to use Doppler, the world's largest DAB broadcasting network, a tap-proof mobile phone, and the world's first spectrum analyzer with a continuous frequency range of up to 67 GHz.
