Currently, the Leica brand is broken into three sectors: Camera, Geosystems, and Microsystems. Leica Microsystems is at the head of this group and owns the brand. The roots of Leica Geosystems date back almost 200 years. The company was there at the birth of modern surveying, with their development of the first portable opto-mechanical theodolite, the world’s first aerial camera, and the world’s first analogue photogrammetric plotter. Today they are based in Heerbrugg, Switzerland and are a part of the Swiss corporation Hexagon. Leica Geosystem’s products line today features an advanced, superior quality selection of GPS-based and laser-based systems for accurate capture and display of data gathered from surveying projects.
