The Fluke 117 and Klein Tools MM700 are both True-RMS Digital Multimeters. Each unit has its own strengths and weaknesses - the right tool for your application will depend on which features you value the most.

Measurement Capability - The Fluke 117 can measure AC/DC voltage and current up to 600V and 20A, respectively. The meter can also perform resistance, continuity, capacitance, and frequency measurements but cannot measure temperature. Diode testing is also possible with the 117. The Klein MM700 can also measure AC/DC voltage and current - this meter is capable of measuring up to 1000V and 10A. The MM700 also supports millivolt, milliamp, and microamp measurements which are not possible on the 117. Resistance, continuity, capacitance, and frequency measurements as well as diode testing are also possible with the MM700. The MM700 also supports temperature measurements from 0° - 1500°F (-18° - 816°C).

Display - The 117 features a 6000 count display supporting 3-1/2 digits. The MM700 display goes up to 4000 counts, although the number of digits the display can show is not published by Klein Tools. Both meters feature a bright display backlight.

Safety / Durability - The Fluke 117 features an ingress protection rating of IP42 against water and dust ingress. The meter also has a CAT III 600V safety rating. No drop test rating for the 117 is published by Fluke. The Klein Tools MM700 is also rated to IP42 against dust and water ingress. This meter has a CAT IV 600V safety rating and is drop-tested to 2 meters.

Special Features - The Fluke 117 includes VoltAlert™ non-contact voltage detection and LoZ ghost voltage detection functions. The Klein MM700 does include a Low Impedance (LoZ) mode for identifying and eliminating ghost or stray voltages, but does not include a non-contact voltage detection function. Both meters feature auto ranging, data hold, min/max, and bar graph functions.
