The Fluke 117 and Fluke 114 are both True-RMS Multimeters with large 3-1/2 digit / 6,000 count displays. The major specifications for these meters are almost exactly the same. Each is capable of measuring voltage up to 600V AC/DC with .5% accuracy. Each also includes a bright white LED backlit screen for easy viewing in any environment. The warranty for each unit is 3 years.
This is where the similarities end. The 114 cannot measure current, while the 117 will measure current up to 20A AC/DC. Both meters can measure resistance and continuity, but only the 117 is capable of also measuring frequency and capacitance. Neither meter is capable of measuring temperature.
Fluke calls the 117 an Electricians Multimeter because this meter is designed for demanding settings such as commercial buildings, hospitals, and schools. It includes diode test capability, VoltAlert™ non-contact voltage detection, and LoZ ghost voltage detection. The Fluke 114 does not include VoltAlert™ or diode test capabilites, but it does include the LoZ function for capturing ghost voltages. The 114 is a more basic tool, designed to be used for general purpose troubleshooting.
