Comparison Summary

The Fluke 115 and Fluke 117 are both True-RMS Multimeters with large 3-1/2 digit / 6,000 count displays. The major specifications for these meters are almost exactly the same. Each is capable of measuring voltage up to 600V AC/DC with .5% accuracy as well as current up to 20A AC/DC. Resistance, continuity, frequency, and capacitance measurements are also possible with both models. Each also includes a bright white LED backlit screen for easy viewing in any environment. The warranty for each unit is 3 years.

Fluke calls the 117 an Electricians Multimeter because this meter is designed for demanding settings such as commercial buildings, hospitals, and schools. It includes VoltAlert™ non-contact voltage detection as well as LoZ ghost voltage detection technologies. The Fluke 115 does not include either of these features - this is the only real difference between the two meters. The 115 is a Compact Multimeter for Field Service Technicians, designed to be used as a general purpose troubleshooting tool.
