Overview

The Fluke TiX560 and FLIR T540 are powerful industrial thermal imaging cameras. There are many similarities between the two including rotating optical blocks so you can adjust your image without moving the camera, as well as interchangeable smart lenses which require no calibration. Both also include image blending technologies and reporting/analysis software as standard. That said, there are some important differences between the specifications of both cameras. Read on for a full breakdown of the differences.

TiX560

The Fluke TiX560 offers 320x240 thermal resolution. This camera also features Fluke SuperResolution mode which provides four times the pixels on target, effectively increasing thermal image resolution to 640x480 either on camera or in Fluke's included SmartView® software. Thermal sensitivity on the TiX560 is 30mK (0.03°C), making it one of the most sensitive cameras in the Fluke range. Maximum temperature for the TiX560 is 2192°F (1200°C). The camera also features one of the largest touchscreen displays in the industry at 5.7-inches - it's the industry's only 320x240 IR camera with a 5.7in touchscreen. The TiX560 also features a 60Hz frame rate for excellent motion capture and a range of interchangeable smart lenses including 2x and 4x telephoto, wide angle, and macro. The lens block on the TiX560 rotates up to 240° so you can capture hard to reach objects without strain.

The TiX560 also includes Fluke IR-Fusion® technology. This is a revolutionary thermal imaging technology that makes it easier for you, the user, to keep track of your findings and see problems in context as you would normally see. This is done by overlaying a thermal image with a standard digital image of the area under test. Users can adjust the IR-Fusion® blending percentage to create a thermal-heavy or digital-heavy image - this feature is called AutoBlend. This combination of features permits the overlay of a partially transparent visible digital camera image with the thermal image right on the thermal camera display in real time.

The TiX560 also includes other unique Fluke features like LaserSharp® Auto Focus. This is a powerful laser-based auto focus system which lets you get an instant in-focus image of your target. The system uses a built-in laser distance meter to calculate and display the distance from your target with pinpoint accuracy. Another powerful focusing feature included on the TiX560 is Fluke MultiSharp. This technology allows you to capture 1 image which will have objects near and far all perfectly in focus. It does this by taking 24 images for each individual image you capture. The technology uses these images to create a composite image which has every object in the frame in perfect focus.

T540

The FLIR T540 features a 464x348 thermal resolution. This camera also features FLIR UltraMax®, a resolution enhancement technology which provides four times the pixels on target, effectively increasing thermal image resolution to 928x696. Thermal sensitivity on the T540 is 30mK (0.03°C). Maximum measurement temperature is 2732°F (1500°C). The camera also features a 4-inch touchscreen and 30Hz frame rate. A range of interchangeable lenses including 42°, 24°, and 14° are also available. Each of these lenses auto-calibrates with the camera so you can quickly swap lenses in the field. If you only need one lens, there are versions of the T540 available with each lens so you can buy exactly what you need and nothing more. Camera/lens bundles are also available with two or three lenses. The T540 lens block also rotates up to 180° so you can easily diagnose electrical or mechanical issues even in hard-to-reach areas.

The T540 includes FLIR's unique MSX® Technology. MSX® is not a simple image blending technology - FLIR MSX® actually extracts visible details like numbers and labels from visible light images and embosses them onto your thermal images. There is no opacity adjustment involved and you don't lose any part of your thermal image in the process. To achieve this, FLIR cameras with MSX® actually take two images at once - one with the built-in digital camera and one with the thermal camera. Built-in software extracts visible light details from the digital image and embosses them over thermal images in real time.

The T540 also includes a laser-assisted auto focus system which uses a laser distance meter to calculate the precise distance to a target for highly accurate focusing. Also included free with the camera is FLIR's powerful FLIR Tools reporting software. FLIR Tools is arguably one of the best thermal reporting software suites available and provides you with a streamlined interface for fast review, image analysis, and report generation.
