Overview

The FLIR TG165 and Fluke VT02 are easy to use, compact Visual IR Thermometers (also called Spot Thermal Cameras) which help you to visualize hot and cold and locate hidden problems with electrical components, building insulation, and more. Units like these are perfect for casual users or professionals who only use thermal imaging occasionally – their compact size, ease of use, and low price makes them accessible and useable to almost anyone right out of the box.

The TG165 and VT02 are not fully-featured infrared cameras – each is basically an IR thermometer which shows you a thermal heat map to guide your work. The images produced by these cameras are not radiometric, meaning that you can only see temperature data for the unit’s center measurement spot. If you need a thermal camera with fully radiometric images for more demanding applications like industrial maintenance and building inspections, consider the FLIR E4 or Fluke TiS10 – each of these affordable, fully-featured thermal cameras is a step-up from visual IR thermometers.

Comparison

The TG165 is intuitive to operate and features 80x60 IR resolution, 150mK thermal sensitivity and a 9Hz frame rate. The unit is durable enough to withstand a 2-meter drop for your toughest jobs. The TG165 also has ±1.5% or ±1.5°C accuracy, -13 to 716°F temperature measurement range, and a 2-inch screen. It’s backed by FLIR and includes the company’s 10-year thermal detector warranty with 2 years coverage for the rest of the product. The TG165 also includes a rechargeable li-ion battery.

The VT02 is just as intuitive and is easy to use right out of the box with no training. The unit can measure temperature from 14°F to 482°F with an accuracy of ±2°C or ±2%. It features hot and cold markers and 8-hour battery life, as well as Fluke’s unique infrared heat map blending. This blending technology lets you overlay the heat map over a digital image of the same scene in 5 levels, so you can actually see what elements are hot or cold. The VT02 also includes Fluke’s SmartView® reporting software so you can easily make professional reports.
