Overview
The Flir Scout TK and Seek Thermal Reveal both offer an economical solution for thermal imaging. There are two primary considerations in comparing the two models, form factor and interface.
Both cameras have a thermal resolution of 160 x 120 pixels. The Scout TK has a smaller field of view, designed for observing objects at a greater distance, up to 100 yards. The Flir One is intended for close inspections, working best at 4 ft for most targets.
The form factor of the two cameras is very different, monocular vs. handheld. The Flir One is a phone module, plugging into whatever device you have. You hold the phone out and are able to use your touchscreen to interact with the Flir One App. This modular design allows you to move between devices, even onto tablets with larger viewing screen. The Scout TK is held to your eye in classic monocular fashion. The interface is limited to four buttons and can be less intuitive.
Either may be desirable depending on the application. A monocular is the perfect design for outdoor use, and the extended range makes it much more practical for hunting, search and rescue, and security. The Scout TK is also much more rugged than the Flir One, hardened to the elements with water ingress protection and drop resiliency. The Flir One is a better tool for looking for insulation problems, moisture intrusion and breaker box inspection.
