FLIR FLIR DM284 vs FLIR DM285

What is the difference between the FLIR DM284 and FLIR DM285

Comparison Guide

Overview

Both the FLIR DM284 and DM285 are industrial-grade test tools which combine True-RMS multimeters with thermal imaging capabilities. With this powerful combination, you can quickly and easily see the exact location of electrical issues and troubleshoot them faster. These tools are perfect for inspecting industrial-electrical, mechanical, HVAC/R, and electronic systems, and can be used for both benchtop electronics or in the field.

Both the DM284 and DM285 feature FLIR’s unique Infrared Guided Measurement (IGM™) technology powered by a built-in FLIR thermal imager with 160 x 120 pixel resolution. Both use FLIR’s Lepton® microbolometer thermal sensor. Thermal sensitivity is also the same for both tools at ≤ 150 mK.

The similarities don’t end there – both the DM284 and DM285 feature 3°C or 3.5% thermal accuracy, 14°F to 302°F temperature range, and fixed focus. The only major difference between the two in terms of thermal imaging capabilities is Field of View – the DM284 features a 46° x 35° FOV compared to 50° x 38° on the DM285.

As for measurements taken with the built-in multimeter, both units are the same. Both can measure up to 1000V AC/DC and 10A AC/DC. Both can perform capacitance and diode tests as well as continuity checks.

The only other differences between the DM284 and DM285 are connectivity and data logging. On the FLIR DM285, you get Bluetooth connectivity which enables wireless data transfer by connecting to the FLIR Tools Mobile app on compatible mobile devices. The DM285 can also store 10 sets of 40K scalar measurements and 100 images internally. You don’t get any of these features on the DM284.

Other than that, the DM284 is rated to IP54 for Ingress Protection while the DM285 is only rated to IP40.
