Overview

The FLIR C5 is a step-up from its predecessor, the FLIR C3. While there are many functional similarities between the two, the FLIR C5 greatly improves upon many of them. Some important areas where improvements were made are the thermal resolution, temperature range, field of view, and battery life.

Compared to the FLIR C3’s 80 x 60 thermal resolution, the FLIR C5 offers a much higher resolution of 160 x 120 resulting in better image quality. FLIR C5's temperature range, -4°F to 752°F, is also wider when compared to FLIR C3’s temperature range of 14°F to 302°F. In a similar trend, the FLIR C5 also boasts a higher field of view of 54° × 42° compared to FLIR C5 offers a much higher resolution of 160 x 120 resulting in better image quality. FLIR C5's temperature range, -4°F to 752°F, is also wider when compared to FLIR C3’s 41° x 31°. Another important criterion that users will appreciate about the FLIR C5 is the longer-lasting battery – FLIR C5 doubles the battery life by lasting up to 4 hours compared to FLIR C3’s which only lasts for 2. Lastly, the included USB Type-C interface of the FLIR C5 also enables users to upload their images at a faster speed compared to FLIR C3’s which comprises of the USB Micro-B.

With the C5, FLIR has clearly taken major leaps upon expanding on their already existing features. Wi-Fi connectivity, Picture in Picture mode, and MSX Technology have carried over to the FLIR C5; some, like the MSX Technology, offer a better Minimum Focus Distance with FLIR C5. At the same price point of $699, the FLIR C5 is simply the optimal choice for those in the market for a new Compact Thermal Camera.
