Both the FLIR C2 and Seek Thermal ShotPRO are advanced handheld thermal imaging cameras. Each has a small form factor which makes it easy to fit these cameras in a pocket and carry with you comfortably all day. There are, however, some big differences between the two.

The C2 is backed by FLIR, one of the biggest names in thermal imaging technologies. FLIR backs up the C2 with a 10-year warranty on the thermal detector – no one else in the industry can compare to that. The C2 also includes FLIR’s proprietary MSX image enhancement technology, giving you unmatched visible details in your thermal images. Before MSX, you needed a visible light reference image to compare side by side with your thermal image – FLIR MSX has eliminated this by blending visible details into thermal images.

The Seek Thermal ShotPRO has a 1-year warranty and includes Seek's new image blending technology called SeekFusion™. SeekFusion™ combines the diagnostic power of thermal imaging with the context and detail of a visible image. With it, you can easily adjust the blend to quickly expose hidden problems. The ShotPRO also features a 320 x 240 pixel thermal sensor resolution, compared to only 80 x 60 pixels on the C2. The ShotPRO wins again when comparing temperature range – it covers -40°F to 626°F, compared to 14°F to 302°F on the FLIR C2. Seek also says the ShotPRO has a 57° Field of View, compared to 41° × 31° on the C2.

The ShotPRO does take the edge in thermal sensitivity at 70mK, while the C2 is close behind at 100mK. The ShotPRO also beats the C2 on internal storage with its 4GB drive capable of storing 4,000 images – the C2 can only store 500 image sets internally. As for screen size, the ShotPRO wins again with a 3.5-inch touchscreen, compared to a 3-inch touchscreen on the C2. Both cameras feature the same frame rate of 9Hz. For thermal accuracy, the C2 comes in at ±2°C or 2%. Seek Thermal has actually not published the accuracy of the ShotPRO on its website or on any of the product’s data sheets/manuals.

Both cameras support some type of wireless non-radiometric video streamng. With the ShotPRO, you can stream live to your smartphone or tablet when connected wirelessly using the free SeekView app on your device. The C2 also supports non-radiometric IR video streaming to mobile devices running the FLIR Tools App, but you cannot do so wirelessly and must use a USB cable. With the C2, you can also transfer images via USB to the FLIR Tools professional reporting software for Mac or PC. This software lets you analyze your images and make adjustments before creating professional reports right in the software. With Seek's new SeekView app, you can also transfer and analyze photos. The main difference here is that SeekView is only a mobile app while FLIR Tools offers a mobile app and a more fully featured desktop reporting software with professional reporting capabilities.
