Excellent iron.
5.0
The iron itself is excellent. The response time is fast compared to a lot of other irons. It heats up really quick, not as fast as the 40 watt WXMP iron though, which is understandable because this is the 120 watt version. When I touch the tip to a component, it doesn't take very much time at all to go back to the set temperature. Overall, I think this is an excellent buy. The only problem I could see is when I got my iron, some of the paint was chipped off on the iron itself. This doesn't actually affect performance or anything. I just like keeping my equipment looking brand new. This iron uses tips, not cartridges like the WXMP iron. It makes the tips a bit less expensive but changing them while it's hot might be a bit of an issue. Also, there's a little more work involved changing the tips compared to the WXMP cartridge style ones. Personally, I prefer the cartridge system over the tip system, even though they cost a bit more money. As for the stand, it's a great stand, however, there needs to be something else inside the piece that holds the steel wool. It's a bit loose and when I put the iron in there to clean it off, sometimes the iron will get stuck on the steel wool and pull apart when I remove it. My wife and I took some small pieces of wood and cut them to size so they'd eat up the slack. Now the steel wool doesn't move at all.The one thing I really love about these stands are they can interconnect. Each stand comes with two plastic / rubber connectors. There's three holes on the side of each stand. You put those plastic / rubber pieces in those holes and you can attach another stand. This really keeps the workspace looking very nice and professional.
