I've used Tramex moisture meters for 25 years. I used the relative scale of 0-100 to compare good areas of the vessel to the elevated areas. Its a handy tool. I feel the 0-100 scale makes more sense to most people than the reported percentage scales found on other meters. If you don't know what the scale means on a 0-30 scale, its hard to relay the info to the customer. As well, I feel that the only way to develop actual percentages of moisture is to do a destructive test using a Delmhorst pin type meter or to pull a core sample and have it analyzed by weighing the sample, burn out of moisture then re-weigh of the sample. I've found that 80 on the relative scale is only 4% moisture, a low level. The percentage of moisture is not linear since 85 on the relative scale is more like 15% which I've found is the threshold to rot of organic cores. The only issue I have with the Tramex brand is longevity. I go through one every year and a half and at the inflated price they are selling for, its a bit of a rip off. If they would make a tougher unit, as well as drop in battery instead of the cheapest battery connections known to mankind, they could justify the high price. I need to purchase another unit but am looking around for other alternatives, which seem to be few. Have mercy on us Tramex.
