I purchased this product to help me locate a gas leak that developed under the kitchen island cooktop. Our house is on a post-tensioned slab and the gas line to the island comes up from underneath the slab. This made it complicated to locate the leak with soap bubbles.
The HXG-2dr arrived nicely packed and this unit comes with rechargeable batteries, a charger, soft-case and instructions. I charged it for about 6 hours and it was ready to go. The case of the unit is pretty rugged and it is very easy to use. Just powered it up in an area that was clear of gas and after it's self-calibration, it was probing for gas in about 1 minute. The actual gas probe is on a 16-inch extension, that allows it to extend into tight spaces.
This unit is very sensitive (10 ppm), which it picked up about 8 feet away from the island. The unit has a really nice "Geiger-counter-like" tick mode that helped me isolate the leak very accurately. The tick can be reset with the "B" tick calibrate button, to slow it down as you move closer to the source of a leak.
The display has a switchable backlight, that is handy in dark spaces.
Concentrations of gas can be read in PPM or %LEL. The unit reads a variety of explosive gases.Helpful when you connect up a new gas line or change out a butane tank. Or simply to find out how much gas is leaking in the event that you smell or suspect a leak somewhere.
Overall, a well made and accurate tool that is easy to use and very effective in pinpointing gas leaks.
I highly recommend it. It uses "C" cells and it is a little heavy because of that, otherwise, I would have given it 5-stars.
Now, off to fix the leak.
