The 'SCILOGEX' Portable Dry-Ice maker is the fastest way of providing a block of Dry-Ice to your lab. It is compact and lightweight, requires no electric power, and is safe and simple to use. Most importantly, it is always there in the lab to give you immediate access to Dry-Ice WHEN YOU NEED IT. The economy of having your Dry-Ice ‘on tap’ can provide considerable financial savings over a relatively short period as the cost of having Dry-Ice delivered to your lab can be prohibitive. The 'SCILOGEX' Portable Dry-Ice maker produces a block of approx.2.2Lbs in weight in approximately 1 minute, and all you have to do is connect the unit to a cylinder of CO2, and turn on the tap. Remember, it has to be a LIQUID cylinder with an internal siphon.
Firmly connect machine hose to the CO² cylinder. Use plastic washer supplied for the inside of the hexagonal nut that attaches to the cylinder. Ensure nothing obstructs the flow of CO² through the hose. Attach the end of hose firmly to top fitting on Dry Ice Machine.
Open CO² cylinder valve no more than 1-2 small divisions on the inner scale (0-20) of the gauge. This gives the maximum number of ice blocks and does not waste CO². Be sure vapor escaping from vents of the machine does not carry snow solids. If there are, close down valve slightly. After ice builds up in the machine, speed up the process by opening the valve another degree or two. If the needle reaches 10 on the inner scale turn valve off.
Vapour will discharge through vertical filter slots as dry ice block is forming. When vapor discharges from space between lid and body of machine (and sound changes), the dry ice block is formed. Immediately close cylinder valve. The first 1-2 blocks will take slightly longer to process because the box and feed pipe are being cooled to the proper temperature. Time then becomes shorter to produce additional blocks.
Open dry ice block machine by loosening latches and folding downsides. Remove block for use or storage. Caution: always wear protective gloves when handling dry ice; can cause burns and frostbite. Blocks can be stored in Dilvac Dewar Flasks. During and after making dry ice block, handle feed hose carefully. Hose will appear white and is frozen. If bent, pulled or twisted hose can be damaged or broken.
USE DRY-ICE IN: Hospitals, Research Labs., Tissue Preservation, Food preservation, Specimen transportation, Recreational purposes. WARNING: Gaseous CO2 vapors can cause suffocation, so use the unit only in well-ventilated areas. Also, use the unit only on a level supporting surface. Never allow the unit to hang from the feed hose. DO NOT HANDLE DRY-ICE WITHOUT GLOVES, REMEMBER, IT IS A VERY COLD -80°C.
