I'm Happy
5.0
I have only used this option once, I have played around quite a bit learning how to use it. If I had looked closely at the specifications to start most of what I learned was there, I just like to do it my way. To date it has lived up to all my expectations even in the learning curve. Once I had become comfortable with the parameters I had none of the false / wrong decoding errors others talked of on youtube. It just does what it is supposed to do!

Not what it says it is.

This option only enables serial decoding but for some reason serial triggering is not enabled. I'm not sure how useful one is without the other...
Teuipment Response: This unit is Serial Bus Analysis Option: RS232/UART,I2C,SPI Trigger and Decoding function. This is what it unlocks. This is a code that unlocks serial bus analysis.

good oscilloscope for its price.

I have not used the serial options yet, but I know I will need in the future. and of course four channels of signal probes are very helpful in hardware development.
Thank you very much for TEquipment for offering good price and smooth delivery service!

Loaded with Capabilities
5.0
The scope does everything that I need. From simple multple analog signal amplitude and phase comparisons, I am able to reliably monitor signals through my circuits. The digital signal monitoring and analysis allows me to keep multiple aignals in sync. Honestly, I will probably only use 10% of the scopes capabilities. However, learning what it can do gives me new ideas on how to analyze and improve me circuits.

Upgrading to 4 channels
4.0
Several years ago, after using much more expensive scopes at my job, I bought a Rigol DS1052E as my personal DIY scope. I was blown away by its capability relative to its price point. The only problem was that sometimes working with only 2 channels was limiting. Now, the DS1074Z has brought 4-channels (with advanced serial bus decoding) into mu DIY price range; and I couldn't pass it up.
I have only spent a few days with it, but again I am impressed with the quality, functionality, and price point. Rigol has again impressed me by being a first class test equipment supplier.
Also, I want to shout out a big thank you to TEquipment for working some magic and delivering the "plus" version to me by Christmas.
You may ask, "Why then are you giving only 4-stars?"
I just raising the bar higher to incentivize 100 MHz at this price point. At that point I could abandon my analog backup scope.

Great addition for this scope
5.0
Bought the scope new with the option on trial period. I work mostly with microcontrollers so the option to debug serial links is of great value for me. I got so used to this feature that when the trial period expired, I bought the license right away.
Tequipment carried the operation timely, I'm very satisfied with these guys service and tech support!

Exactly what I was expecting
4.0
This product provides the basic serial decoding I required. It's not quite as fast as my Agilent scope, but at 1/10th the price it is well worth the investment.

Rigol SA-DS1000Z Option
4.0
I have this option on my Rigol MSO1104Z-S and have tested with all functions (RS232, UART, I2C, and SPI) and all was good. I have not had any issues using this for decoding several data channels simultaneously on automated control systems and other logical control boards. It maybe a bit of a high price but I thought it was worth it for my needs.

Works but expensive
2.0
This option does an adequate job of decoding serial data. It has a large parameter list to adapt to most conventional baud rates and types. It can decode any two channels simultaneously. A few quirks- I can’t see both Event Tables at the same time. Not sure if that’s’ a bug or a limitation. Also it appears you cannot use the record function and serial bus analyzer at the same time. This wasn’t great news to me, as occasionally I would like to record longer data exchanges and review them later. For short data bursts the run-stop button works fine. This is what I typically use anyway.
It would have been nice to have a few of the Advanced Trigger Options (only the RS232/UART/I2C/SPI) included with the SA-DS1000Z. It makes the SA-DS1000Z software work much better. That would appear more palatable; right now the cost is almost ? the price of the scope. I would like to have the Advance Trigger Options, but I don’t believe it’s worth ? the price of the scope either.
I was looking to replace my logic analyzer for smaller busses (no more than 2 channels) and although not perfect, it does the job. My biggest gripe is the price. The DS-1054Z scope is a bargain. The SA-DS1000Z isn’t. Maybe with the some Advanced Serial Triggers added and a lower price($50-$100), maybe then it could be called a good buy.
