I have this question too (4)
The memory options will upgrade the memory from 14Mpts to 28 Mpts. This will allow for a longer waveform time where you can store more data points into the memory. Increased memory depth enable the scope to collect high resolution data over longer timeframes. This can decrease troubleshooting time with sporadic event.

Memory Depth Option for Rigol MSO1104
5.0
I ordered this option when I ordered my new Rigol MSO1104Z. The option arrived by email before the scope made it thru the delivery process. The certificate with the option is very official looking and is in multiple languages. The installation process is interesting as first you go on line with the number from the certificate and the serial number from your scope. The online process chews on these two and spits out another number that you then enter into your scope. This is a bit tedious since there isn't a keyboard on the scope and you need to use the selector dial to enter the alphanumeric codes. I think a neater process might be for the online program to spit the data out to a file that could be copied to a USB stick and then inserted to the scope for activation of the option. That might be a bit too sophisticated for a once only operation but it would save option purchasers a bit of frustration. Everything worked fine however and the scope now shows that I own the extra memory depth forever. Next purchase is going to be the decode and trigger options and then the waveform option. I see many happy hours of spinning the selection dial to select the characters for these option activations. Beats watching TV!
