The EW-39642-02 is a handheld thermometer which can be used to measure human temperature. The EW-39642-02 is a non-contact, infrared device and therefore, does not require direct contact with skin, reducing the risk of contaminating the device. The measurement distance for this instrument is between 2” to 5.9" from the testing subject. Its temperature range for human measurement is 89.6 to 108.5°F with a resolution of 0.1°F/C. The resolution refers to how granular the measurement will be - in this case, it measures to one decimal place, or 0.1 degrees. Its accuracy over the range of 96.8 to 102.2°F is ±0.4°F. Therefore, if a patient is displaying a temperature of 101°F on the device, their actual temperature could be between 100.6°F and 101.4°F. This device is FDA cleared and within accordance of ASTM E1965-1998; EN 980: graphical symbols for use in the labeling of medical devices; EN 1041: information supplied by the manufacturer with medical devices; EN 60601-1: medical electrical equipment part 1: general requirements for safety (IEC:60601-1:1998); and EN 60601-1-2: medical electrical equipment part 1-2: general requirements for safety collateral standard electromagnetic compatibility requirements and test (IEC 60601-1-2:2001). This noncontact infrared (IR) thermometer is intended for industrial and office health screenings and monitoring. When this product is used for human body temperature measurement, it is only used as a reference for fever screening and cannot be used for medical identification. Use of this thermometer is not intended as a substitute for consultation with a healthcare professional.
NOTE REGARDING FDA APPROVAL: The FDA has recently issued guidance providing that it does not object to the distribution and use of telethermographic systems intended for adjunctive diagnostic/initial body temperature assessment and screening during the COVD-19 pandemic where such devices do not create an undue risk.
