ZOOM 2 / Laser OWL Test Kit

The ZOOM 2 (Zeroed Output Optical Meter) is an economical fiber optic power meter. It provides accurate testing of singlemode fiber cables. The 4-digit 7-segment LCD displays power readings with a resolution of 0.01dB. On-screen indicators display measurement units (dBm, dB, uW), as well as battery life. The ZOOM 2 comes configured with a 2.5mm universal connector for connection to ST or SC connectors, as well as any other fiber connector with a 2.5mm ferrule.

General Features

1. Charger Port / Optional VFL Port - Allows for charging of re-chargable 9-volt batteries, as well as wall power operation (9VDC transformer and 9-volt re-chargeable battery not included).
   
   DO NOT USE BATTERY CHARGING PORT WITH NON- RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR EXPLOSION AND DAMAGE MAY OCCUR TO THE UNIT AND/OR THE USER.
   
   As an option, a Visual Fault Locator (VFL) can be installed in place of the charger port.

3. 2.5mm Universal Connector Port - accepts many popular 2.5mm ferrule connectors, including ST, SC, and FC. Also, for an additional charge, a 1.25mm universal cap is available (for connection to LC, MU, and other SFF connectors).
4. LCD Display - shows optical power/loss levels, power units, wavelength, and battery status.
5. Single press changes wavelength; holding button powers the unit ON or OFF.
6. Single press toggles the power units between dBm, dB, and uW; holding sets the reference for the selected wavelength.

The Laser OWL is a 1310/1550nm NIST traceable singlemode light source. Its dual wavelength outputs are temperature-stabilized for accurate measurements. The Laser OWL has three connector options: ST, SC, or FC.

Functional Description

1. 1310nm port - Houses a 1310nm singlemode source and can be either a ST, SC, or FC connector.
2. Charger Port - Allows for charging of re-chargable 9-volt batteries, as well as wall power operation.
   
   DO NOT USE BATTERY CHARGING PORT WITH NON- RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES, AS THIS COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE HARM TO THE UNIT AND/OR THE USER.


3. 1550nm port - Houses a 1550nm singlemode source and can be either a ST, SC, or FC connector.
4. 1310nm Indicator LED - Indicates the ON/OFF status of the 1310nm laser source.
5. 1550nm Indicator LED - Indicates the ON/OFF status of the 1550nm laser source.
6. Charger Indicator LED - Indicates the status of the charger port.
7. Power Button - Powers the unit ON or OFF.
8. Wavelength Select Button - Switches the unit between 850nm and 1300nm.

NOTE: During normal operation, if the Output LED (3) is not lit, this indicates that the battery has insufficient power, and must be replaced.
