NetScout 01654 Advanced MPLS Package
Enterprises derive significant value from the deployment of remote access technologies such as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), cloud, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, VoIP, Video, and IPv6. However, managing the performance of new technologies presents significant challenges as limited bandwidth and competition with mission critical applications represent substantial hurdles to application performance using the current network infrastructure.
Fortunately, Visual Performance Manager™ and the TruView™ Advanced MPLS package provide cost-effective visibility into the network performance at local and remote sites. This solution enables IT managers to identify bandwidth utilization with Top Talkers while also having end-to-end Service Level Agreements (SLA) with an onsite, on-demand packet capture utility for advanced diagnosis.
The Advanced MPLS Package combines the following time synchronized, software packages:
- Service Summary – service health and real time SNMP pro-active customizable events
- Network Troubleshooting – real time 1 second monitoring
- Back-in-Time – two weeks of troubleshooting and 1 years of reports
- Traffic Capture – packet capture when you need it
- Class of Service – validation of Class of Service Settings
Physical Layer 1 Visibility
By combining the above packages, the user will have real time and historical physical layer visibility; allowing for verification that the last mile provided by the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) has installed and maintained clean copper or fiber to your facility. Proactive Events can be created to proactively monitor the local loop worry free and isolate the owner of the issue, because the physical layer can affect the application layer causing a slow end user response time.
Achieve End-to-end Application Visibility per Class of Service
The advanced MPLS package auto discovers the applications traversing the network, both Citrix and non-Citrix, giving users a total view of application utilization across the network, including each class of service (CoS). Users also have time synchronized, bi-directional, insight into how those applications are performing and how much bandwidth they are consuming per class of service.
Class of Service Validation
Visual Performance Manager advanced MPLS package allows IT managers to quickly and easily determine if the Class of Service is correctly tagging the mission critical real time VoIP traffic with the correct CoS setting in the Type of Service (TOS) field within the IP header, or whether Email is being classified with the VoIP traffic. Good for Email, bad for VoIP.
classified with the VoIP traffic. Good for Email, bad for VoIP. By baselining network utilization and understanding capacity requirements, enterprises can provide the proper bandwidth for remote sites for each Class of Service. And as enterprises roll out new applications, the solution helps them plan sufficient bandwidth for new deployments while maintaining the capacity to support existing critical applications. Traffic that is not being tagged with a Class of Service also is identified.
Troubleshoot Application Performance
By providing in-depth visibility into common application protocols including Citrix ICA, the solution lets users identify potential application-performance problems and determine whether these problems are due to end-to-end network issue by the MPLS provider, local loop issues on either end, bandwidth, bursting, or mis-classified CoS settings. These problems are typically very difficult to diagnose without real-time and historical visibility into network and application performance.
The advanced MPLS package provides Service Level Agreements from site to site within an MPLS connectionless, any-to-any network. These metrics validate whether the service provider is meeting their network SLAs across the WAN from any location with the advanced MPLS package.
The metrics with real time performance monitoring SNMP pro-active events include:
- Availability per Class of Service from site to site
- Packet Delivery Ratio as defined by actual customer traffic, not synthetic traffic
- Round Trip Delay per Class of Service
Measure Impact From Other Applications
A variety of other types of traffic, including non-Citrix applications, worms and viruses, and unauthorized applications such as peer-to-peer file sharing may cause a burst on the network that a pinging and polling solution will never see. Consequently, users require in-depth visibility into network performance with one second visibility. Users can quickly pinpoint poor application performance due to insufficient bandwidth and whether the CoS settings are working as designed during times of congestion in real time or back-in-time when a problem occurred 10 days ago.
Traffic Capture
The "Advanced" portion of the software allows for packet capture to be utilized in real time as needed. Once an event has been isolated utilizing the pro-active performance events, reviewed for patterns over the last two weeks with back-in-time, a capture can be triggered or filtered on, for advanced troubleshooting analysis. Whether you want to isolate on the IP address of a phone to see all the call traffic, or on an application, or on a server supporting a service, the packets will always be available to you when you troubleshooting to root cause.
