The Moticam Pro series are scientific grade CCD microscopy cameras, for applications requiring higher levels of functionality and performance. The Moticam Pro line contains twelve separate models, each designed to complement specific microscopy techniques. All cameras contain a universal C-mount thread, and ports for connection via USB 2.0. To process your images, Motic also includes the Motic Images Plus 2.0 software suite, as well as Motic Images Advanced 3.2. All TWAIN drivers, Direct Show drivers, and SDK are also included as part of the standard package.
The Moticam Pro line features different sensor styles, each made for specific applications. Color CCD sensors are ideal for traditional microscopy, whereas monochrome sensors are typically used with low luminosity. Motic also offers Peltier cooled monochrome and color devices for use with fluorescence applications.
Peltier Cooling Device
After extended periods of use, camera sensors will begin to rise in temperature. This can create picture quality issues with long exposures, as higher temperatures make the sensor more susceptible to noise. This graininess makes results harder to examine, however, it is controllable. With the Motic Peltier mechanism, the sensor is cooled down up to 10 degrees Celsius below ambient temperature (temperature inside the camera casing). This cooling feature makes them ideal for use with fluorescence.
Live readout
Cooled versions of the Moticam Pro contain an environmental sensor enabling users to see live information on the camera sensor, ambient temperature, and relative humidity in the camera casing. Users can also set a target temperature for the unit to maintain. Motic has engineered these cameras to eliminate the possibility of condensation from rapid cooling.
Color and Monochrome
Color cameras use an RGB primary color mosaic filter on their chip. Distribution is standard: 25% Red, 50% Green and 25% Blue. With fluorescence, only one color is typically revealed, therefore preventing all available pixels from receiving information. For example, if a blue image were being examined, only 25% of the total pixels are receiving and distributing information.
Monochrome cameras do not contain a color filter – each pixel records the light it sees and does not transmit color information to the computer. This makes monochrome cameras desirable when working with fluorescence, as low light samples with employ the sensor’s full capacity of sensors. While color is important with fluorescence, this can be added in post processing with software.
