The Motic GM-171 is a high quality, gemological microscope. Rugged and precise, its high resolution optics make analysis and measurement quick and easy, enabling users to work faster and more efficiently. This is a very specialized microscope, and is excellent at what it does.
Available in both binocular and trinocular formats, the GM-171 features a zoom range of 0.75x to 5x, with a working distance of 110mm. Working distance refers to the amount of space between the specimen and microscope objective. This long working distance provides essential unobstructed room for users to move and position gems being examined, without the microscope inhibiting their movement.
The GM-171 features a 360 degree rotatable base, and multiple illumination sources. Brightfield observation is facilitated with a 30w quartz Halogen lamp, with a precise, adjustable diaphragm (41mm-2mm). You would be able to measure the proportions and pavilions of diamonds by using a table gauge. Darkfield observation, ideal for viewing inclusions, can be performed as well. By adjusting the unit’s aperture diaphragm, the depth of field and contrast can easily be altered, enabling faster and better identification.
The Motic GM-171 also includes a 7w incident fluorescent light source, designed for use with diamonds. Mounted on a gooseneck for greater flexibility, this lamp has a color temperature of 6000K to reduce any yellowing effects.
There are a number of accessories available for the GM-171, ideal for use in the examination of gems. Three styles of holders and pointers are available, including rounded edge holders, wire holders, and also inclusion pointers, used for rapid location of inclusions and fractures. An analyzer kit for diamonds is also available, used for identification and measurement of proportions and pavilions. Furthermore, there are several optional objectives, eyepieces, as well as polarizers and filters.
