The brand new thermal camera modules on the market today work great with phones, tablets and other devices that have either a lightning port or a micro USB (USB OTG) connector.

However, many of the non-phone devices do not have a flash or LED lamp.

Why is this important?

Thermal cameras often take a visual image, along with the thermal one. Or they will blend or otherwise enhance the thermal image with visual information.

Visual cameras need light. So if you want to take the best picture possible that includes a visual reference, you need a light source.

If you are using the FLIR ONE for either iOS or Android and you want to enhance your image with FLIR's MSX technology, it uses the visual camera included with your FLIR ONE module. However, the visual camera, like all other standard cameras, requires light.

So, if you use your FLIR ONE module with a device that does not have a built-in flash and there is not enough ambient light (like in a closet, crawlspace, attic or basement) then you lose out on one of the major benefits of the FLIR ONE, namely the MSX.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

This device plugs into the headphone jack of your device and is completely self-powered. It does not draw any power from your phone, nor does it provide any power to it.

It charges with it's own plug.

There is also an App you can download for your device and it will work as a high-powered flash for your device. This will help you take better pictures (and of course amazing selfies).

The 4 LEDs provide plenty of light for most applications.
