The Megger 569001-7 ultrasonic tone generator helps detect leaks in tanks, pipes, and sealed containers in automotive, plumbing, and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) applications. The unit is placed inside the empty enclosure to be tested, and it emits a 40-kilohertz frequency that is detected by the Megger 569001-KIT ultrasonic leak and corona detector (not included). It operates on one 9-volt battery (included) and measures 3.5 x 2.5 x 1.75 inches (89 x 57 x 44 mm, H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back).

More complex leak detectors have electronic sensors that measure the concentration of leaked gas or liquid in an area to pinpoint the source of leaks, determine the type of gas present, monitor air quality, and detect electrical corona or failing valves, bearings, and solenoids.
