For assembling or reworking surface mount devices, this isn't a must, but it is convenient and adds a degree of precision over using solder wire. Now obviously it's lead free, which means it requires a little more heat than leaded solders, but with enough skill and patience that hurdle can be overcome. Quick note, the needle these syringes come with is much larger in diameter; which is wonderful because it makes applying the solder paste a lot easier!
