When people ask Lignomat why moisture meters are important, the company’s answer is simple: Protect your work. Buy a moisture meter. Do not waste time and money on wet wood.
Out of this philosophy, the company was born. Early products included moisture meters and kiln control equipment, all designed to be used with wood. This has been the company’s primary focus area since its founding, although today Lignomat has developed meters for testing moisture in concrete, sheetrock, and other materials.
Lignomat developed its first hand held low-cost moisture meter in 1979. The device was called the mini-Ligno and since then, has sold more than 200,000 units. This early version was the starting point for Lignomat’s broad expertise in moisture measurement. The mini-Ligno is still on sale today, although the inner circuitry has been updated several times. The most recent update saw the company add parameters for accurate readings when measuring a variety of wood species including bamboo as well as domestic and tropical hardwoods. The latest mini-Ligno was also programmed with parameters for other modern materials like sheetrock.
The mini-Ligno and all its modern versions are an example of the traditional pin type moisture meter. Lignomat also manufactures pinless moisture meters with dual depth 1/4″ and 3/4″. This series includes the Ligno-Scanners and Ligno-DuoTec. These devices also feature multiple built-in corrections for different wood species like bamboo and hardwoods, as well as concrete and sheetrock. Lignomat’s unique measuring technology allows for dual-depth measurement of thin and thicker boards, top layer and overall moisture content, applications where water-based finishes are measured, and much more.
Lignomat also offers a combination pin and pinless moisture meter with RH capability called the Ligno-Versatec. Other recent additions to the product line include thermo-hygrometers, RH concrete meters, and both tethered and wireless monitoring devices. All these devices are designed to help ensure that your projects don’t get ruined by excess moisture.
