The Keysight InfiniiMax Ultra probe amplifiers address modern high-speed probing requirements by offering up to 25 GHz bandwidth and RC input impedance profile for extremely low mid-band loading. It provides a wide variety of flexible connectivity solutions, covering today’s emerging signaling standards such as DDR5/LPDDR5 and other high-speed signal debug and validation test needs. Keysight’s MX0020A InfiniiMax Ultra Series probe amplifier improves usability because you can measure differential, single-ended, and common mode signals with a single probe tip.

The Keysight InfiniiMax Ultra probe amplifier is compatible with the Infiniium AutoProbe ll Interface which completely configures the Infiniium series of oscilloscopes for this probe amplifier.

This probe amplifier has a built-in probe-specific s-parameter correction filter to ensure a flat frequency response. This unique s-parameter of the probe amplifier is used with the s-parameters of various supported probe heads to further flatten the magnitude and phase response of the probe for high accuracy measurements.

The InfiniiMax Ultra Series has an RC input impedance architecture, which has the lowest loading and least signal distortion across the widest frequency range. RC architecture is best for measuring signals that transition to low power (high impedance) modes such as those found in the latest DDR and MIPI standards. The RCRC architecture, found in other probes, is best when higher bandwidth is necessary, or for signals that have low source impedance.

InfiniiMode allows convenient measurement of differential, single-ended, and common mode signals with a single probe tip without reconnecting the probe from its connection point. This is beneficial to save setup and connection time, reduce errors, and limit the number of scope channels in use.

The InfiniiMax Ultra probes have 3 attenuation ranges, 1:1, 4:1, and 8:1 giving you superior noise performance and large voltage ranges all while maintaining maximum bandwidth. The input range is automatically configured depending on the size of the input signal and the vertical scale of the scope. You have three flexible input dynamic ranges to choose from: 600 mVpp @ 1:1, 2.5 Vpp @ 4:1, and 5 Vpp @ 8:1.

InfiniiMax Ultra probe amps store its unique S parameters in onboard memory for the scope to read out when the probe amp is connected to the scope. Unique S-parameters, as opposed to nominal, means each individual probe amp contains its own frequency response data to further flatten the magnitude and phase response of the probe for high accuracy measurements. When a probe is connected to a scope channel and the proper probe head is selected, the scope calculates a DSP correction filter that includes the probe head, probe amplifier, and scope channel. This provides the maximum measurement accuracy for the complete probe and scope channel system.

Most Keysight probes use one method for correcting probe response without additional software, but now you can natively choose which method you want with a push of a button: True View and Source Estimate.

True View (V out / V in) – shows voltage at the tip of probe as loaded by the probe:

• Pros: More accurate representation of the signal that currently exists, as it is being probed; Better for receiver sensitivity
• Cons: Doesn’t estimate signal that was there before being probed; Shows probe loading

Source Estimate (V out/V source) – estimates voltage at probe point as if not there (assumes 25Ω source impedance)

• Pros: More accurate when system source impedance is known; Better for transmitter testing
• Cons: Error in receiver testing; Hides the effect that probe loading has on signal being probed
