I got by with a genuine Hakko 936 for about 10 years of home engineering but often found myself unable really muster through the tough jobs - heavy ground planes, RF shields, etc. This was just the ticket! Consider the tips an upfront investment, purchase them ahead of time and you'll always have the one you need.

Basically this is the pinnacle of standalone soldering stations. The tip changing method is brilliant, software control via USB, adjustable sleep temperature... the list goes on. The feel of the handle is spot-on. Fits perfectly in the hand and just feels of quality. The entire unit does in fact. JBC really did an excellent job with the UI and overall usability of this station. There really isn't anything in particular that I would "demand" be changed to make it more useful.

This is a great soldering station. Is this the best quality for the price? Probably not because it is quite expensive. But it is only a little bit more expensive when compared to Weller and others in this power range. I'm a hobbyists and I know that way cheaper Hakko would be just fine but I just can't stand how silly hakko looks with its bright blue parts. All to all I think that JBC is well worth the money. Cartridges are excellent, it heats up in seconds and delivers all power when needed. The base has small footprint and I like how the stand and tip cleaner are both "incorporated" into it. I won't be needing another soldering station for a very long time - as long as this one will be working. What more can I say... In my opinion it is better to save a bit more and spend a bit more on the right tool rather than buy something cheap just to replace it in couple of years.
