The Fotric 223B is a thermal imaging system which can be used to screen for elevated body temperature. It features an accuracy of ±0.9°F (0.5°C) and can measure subjects between 2.5 and 10.5 feet away. The 223B offers an accurate and dependable solution for quick screening in high volume settings. Please note, this product is not a medical device and is only designed to measure temperature. It cannot detect or diagnose COVID-19/Coronavirus.
The 223B features a 160 x 120 IR resolution. This means that it simultaneously measures the temperature of 19,200 individual points in the frame. The camera also comes with a very powerful software package which is programmed for facial detection. When someone enters the frame, the camera automatically detects their presence and takes a temperature reading. These individual points are assigned a color based on temperature, which are then used to form the thermal image. Once a reading is taken, the system will provide either a pass or fail signal based on a user defined threshold. For example, if the alarm is set for 100.4°F and someone enters measuring 102°F, staff will be notified with visual and audio signals. Alarm settings are also customizable for situational and privacy requirements.
The Fotric 223B operates at 30 frames per second. Unlike many systems on the market, testing subjects do not have to stop moving for their temperature to be taken. This is very useful for reducing traffic in settings where large numbers of people must be screened. The system is capable of identifying and tracking multiple subjects as they walk through the frame.
It is important to note that recent guidelines from the US Food and Drug Administration recommend scanning be performed one person at a time, as opposed to large group settings. With proper line configuration, it is possible to do this, while also keeping the line in motion. FDA best practices also include the removal of any facial obstruction (hat, glasses, mask, scarf), hair pulled away from the face, and clean/dry skin.
As it is common to drink hot coffee or tea in the morning, the 223B is designed to ignore non-facial sources of heat. Persons entering your facility will not trigger false alarms by holding a hot beverage. The system’s facial detection algorithm will lock on only to their facial features and measure accordingly. Pass or fail status will be based on the subject’s skin temperature, and not a cup in their hand.
The 223B is compatible with the optional 462 black body calibrator. The black body calibrator emits a known and constant temperature and is placed in the camera’s view along with testing subjects. By having this known temperature in the frame, the 223B is able to increase its measurement accuracy.
NOTE REGARDING FDA APPROVAL: The FDA has recently issued guidance providing that it does not object to the distribution and use of telethermographic systems intended for adjunctive diagnostic/initial body temperature assessment and screening during the COVD-19 pandemic where such devices do not create an undue risk. You should always follow all instructions and rules when using any telethermographic system, such as those sold by TEquipment, and should consult with your attorney concerning relevant legal requirements and best practices for implementation and COVID-19 screening.”
