Level I Thermography Training
The Level I Infrared Thermography Training Course is geared to the new infrared camera user and focuses on how thermography is used for a variety of condition monitoring/predictive maintenance applications. Attendees completing all training course requirements and a thermography field assignment will receive a Level I Infrared Thermography Certification.
Infrared Course Benefits
- Comprehensive, hands-on introduction to thermal imaging and measurement systems for predictive maintenance applications. No experience in thermography is necessary!
- Collect quality data, accurate temperature readings, and account for measurement effects such as distance and emissivity using infrared cameras.
- Interpret thermograms and make informed decisions using heat transfer concepts to analyze thermal images, and see the latest in infrared inspection report generation and database software.
- Avoid costly mistakes - learn to distinguish between hot spots and reflections, direct vs. indirect readings and qualitative vs. quantitative thermography.
- Challenge yourself with field applications labs that closely simulate real-world infrared applications.
- Level I Thermography Training topical outline

Certification
No previous thermography experience or IR camera is required.
Students who complete all training course requirements receive a Level I Infrared Thermography Certification and a wallet ID card.
Level I learning objectives, contact hours, and written exam are based on requirements outlined by ANSI/ASNT CP-105 and CP-189 of the American Society for Non-Destructive Testing.
ITC Certification is the gold standard qualification within the thermography industry and exceeds the requirements of international standards.
Infrared Thermography Certification
ITC Infrared Thermography Certification is the gold-standard qualification within the thermography industry. ITC certification verifies that a thermographer can:
- Operate an infrared camera
- Collect quality data
- Produce professional infrared inspection reports
- Understand the techniques and limitations of infrared thermography for specific applications
ITC certifications exceed the requirements of international infrared certification standards. All ITC courses are developed and taught by ASNT-certified instructors with advanced academic degrees and extensive field experience.
To earn an ITC thermography certification, students must attend an infrared certification / training course, pass closed-book examinations and quizzes and submit a field assignment demonstrating understanding of their application and proper use of the infrared camera. ITC offers three levels of certification. Students maintain and advance their infrared certification through continuing education and further training.
North and South America Infrared Thermography Certification
ITC Infrared Certification Courses meet or exceed ASNT SNT-TC-1A guidelines. Level I certification and Level II certification training are both accredited by NETA (International Electrical Testing Association, an accredited standards developer for the American National Standards Institute, ANSI).
Certified ISO 9001 (International Organization for Standardization), ITC is committed to making sure students know how to use their cameras before they receive certification. In fact, ITC has more ASNT Level III thermal / infrared certified staff members than any other organization offering infrared thermography certification. In addition, ITC Latin America operates under the ITC Eurasia certification scheme for ISO 18436 (please see below).
Eurasia Infrared Thermography Certification
ITC is certified ISO 9001 in the "training, education and certification of professional users" of infrared systems in Sweden, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany and Boston. The ITC licensed partner in Romania is also certified ISO 9001.
ITC in Germany is an authorized training organization under EN 473, ITC in the UK is an authorized training organization under BINDT PCN according to ISO 18436-1, and ITC in Norway is an ISO 17024 certified training organization. ITC headquarters have been audited as the central body in all of the standards compliance stated above. The ITC, its staff and partners are active in the development of regional and international standards regarding the practice of thermography, and the certification of personnel within the field of thermography.
The ITC business model in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific has been built upon ISO 18436: Condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines – Requirements for training and certification of personnel. Applicable sections include: ISO 18436-1 (International Standard): Requirements for certifying bodies and the certification process; ISO 18436-3 (Draft International Standard): Requirements for training bodies and the training process; and ISO 18436-8 (Draft International Standard): Thermography.
