Needed a quality meter for electronics repair

I started doing some component level repair on some electronics and the cheap DMM's in the toolbox were not getting the job done. The EX355 was everything I needed with out costing an arm and leg. The meter feels rugged. The latching on continuity testing is quick. Auto-ranging is quick as well. While I would love to have a certain brand of meter, but this meter is a solid substitute at 1/4 the price.

This is the cheapest I could find that had all of the functions that I wanted. The capacitor range is 1pF - 60mF. Much better than any other multimeters in this price range. Continuity testing is good as well, with it beeping from a very short tap of the probes together. Better than some I have seen. Auto ranging could use some help. It is very slow to switch ranges. It feels very solid and has a threaded insert for the battery door. You can turn the range switch without the multimeter turning on the bench (very nice). The temperature probe works like a charm. The hold function is useless as you need a third hand to press the button, luckily there is a min-max button to makeup for the lack of auto hold. The meter reads 0 ohms with the probes touching, so no need to zero it out (also a very nice feature). The probe wires are not made with the more flexible silicone casing, so they are stiffer and more prone to cracking (though they are better than some). The diode testing voltage is higher than most other meters making it easier to test LEDs. The stand seems sturdy and is easy to open. The worst downside to me is that it beeps for way to many things. It beeps each time you change the range switch, twice before it shuts off, if you disable auto shutoff it still beeps when it would have shut off, it also beeps with every button on the thing. And finally the LCD. It has good contrast, it is 6000 count, and the numbers are large and easy to read. So all in all, this is probably the best around for this price. I can live with the annoying parts to save $150. I does what I need it to. At least for now.
