Dwyer TIC-30
1.0
This was the worst instrument purchase I ever made. I purchased this as a design aid for electronic circuits.
The camera comes a docking station, bluetooth headset, AC adapter & cable, USB cable, driver and software. The inclusion of a USB cable makes you think you can download the pictures from the camera into the software, even a cheap $20 camera can do that. No, you can't. Windows 7 won't install the driver because it is not digitally signed. After many problems, finally got driver installed in XP only to find that the computer doesn't see the camera. After weeks of calls to the sales rep and tech support, I'm finally told that only the Pro version of the software can read the camera, but that software is no longer available, and because I've "used" the camera and it has taken them so long to get me an answer about getting the camera and computer to communicate, I can't return it. The USB cable will not transfer data to the included software and will not charge the camera when plugged into a PC, so why bother including it or the driver software? The docking station does not charge the camera through the USB cable, so there is a separate DC jack for charging, but they don't give you a cable or charger for that, only for the bluetooth headset, so, as part of this camera package, the docking station does nothing more than hold the camera. If you want to charge the battery, you have to remove it and charge it separately. If you want to transfer pictures, you have to remove the SD card and plug into computer. After finally resigning myself to the fact that I will have to keep swapping the SD card from camera to PC to get the images, I finally used the camera on the actual project and found that the Visible image and Thermal image are totally mis-aligned - If my thumb was the visual image I was looking at, the thermal image would be over my middle finger. This misalignment makes it very difficult to determine which component is really overheating.
Based on my experience, it is understandable why Dwyer no longer makes these and I would not recommend this product, even though it was on sale at half the normal price.
