CDT-240, Capacitor Discharge Tester
Quite often, electrical devices and appliances use discrete capacitors connected from Line to Neutral and from Line to Ground in order to meet conducted electromagnetic emissions requirements. These requirements are mandated by the FCC and other regulatory authorities. When the power cord of the device is unplugged (especially near the peak of the AC line voltage), a voltage can remain on the capacitors that presents a shock hazard at the prongs of the power cord. Safety regulations restrict the amount of stored energy and voltage that could present a shock hazard to the device user. The CDT-240 is used to measure the remaining voltage that is stored on these capacitors when the power cord is unplugged.
For IEC Testing of residual voltage after plug disconnect. The CDT-240 disconnects the line at the voltage peak and analyzes results to the requirements of various Standards, allowing quick results. Scope output for viewing decay waveform. Presets for EN 61010, EN 60065, EN 60950, EN 60601-1 and EN60335. Recommendations for Plug-able Type B equipment. NIST calibration supplied; A2LA calibration available. 16A option for testing large equipment.
