1. What is a refrigerant identifier? A refrigerant identifier is an instrument designed to differentiate between various types of refrigerants.
2. How do refrigerant identifiers work? Each type of refrigerant has a unique infrared signature. Identifiers take a small sample of the refrigerant and use infrared technology to interpret these signatures and identify the refrigerant.
3. What refrigerants can the R-22id detect? The instrument can detect R22, R12, R134A and hydrocarbons. Only R22 is evaluated for quality. All other refrigerants are treated as contaminants.
4. What are the Pass/Fail criteria? Refrigerant samples that contain 95% or greater R22 Pass. Samples that are less than 95% pure Fail.
5. What do solid and blinking lights mean? Solid lights mean the unit is working. Blinking lights mean the unit is awaiting user input.
6. How does the user move to the next function? Pressing the next button when the lights are blinking move the unit to the next function.
7. The FAULT light is blinking, what does this mean? Counting the number of blinks will indicate the fault code. The fault codes are listed in the user manual.

12. What is the minimum pressure required for operation? The minimum pressure required for accurate readings is 20 Psig.
13. How is the unit powered? The unit can be powered with a standard 9-Volt Alkaline battery or an optional AC power adapter.
14. How many tests can be run before the battery must be changed? The R-22id can run between 30 and 50 tests on a fresh battery depending on the quality of the battery.
15. Does the unit contain a filter? Yes, the filter is brass and located between the clear hose and the coupler. It can be easily changed if oil or debris were to clog the filter.
16. How do I know when the filter needs to be replaced? If oil or liquid appears in the clear hose or the instruments excess air light comes on after a test with 20Psig or higher refrigerant pressure, the filter should be replaced.
17. Can the filter be cleaned? No, the filter cannot be cleaned. It must be replaced with a new unused filter.
