BK Precision Battery Capacity Analyzer tests Lead Acid Batteries and displays the battery's stored charge capacity as a percentage; it also displays both the loaded and unloaded battery voltages. The model 601 can also display the internal resistance of the battery under test. This unit identifies batteries that may be defective or deteriorated. It's a perfect tool for testing battery back up systems for emergency lighting, alarm, sprinkler systems, UPS devices, and any system that uses lead acid batteries to provide power.

I have only tested it twice so for far on a 7 AH 12 volt battery. Seems to measure capacity accurately and it is easy to use. Cables and clamps could have been detachable like most multimeters for easier storage and replacement. It does not come with a case or pouch, but it fits well in a LTGEM battery charger case.

The BK601 is well made and easy to use. However, it will NOT give you a consistently true "capacity analysis" of remaining life of different lead acid batteries. But to be fair, neither will ANY other device under $1000. The ONLY way to economically obtain a reasonably accurate measurement of remaining capacity is to do what ALL the experts recommend - you MUST do a time consuming and somewhat cumbersome "TIMED DISCHARGE TEST". For example, a fully charged but marginal capacity battery will "fool" most testers into reporting that the capacity (in terms of remaining AH life, or CCA for SLI batteries) is much higher than actual. A 75AH battery that has only 30% capacity left can still show 75% capacity on the BK601 if the battery is charged and still has a OCV of 12.6 or better. This is not a short coming of the tester per se, but just the nature of trying to measure "invisible" capacity using brief, pulsed, or simulated capacity determination techniques. Depending on the situation of the battery under test, these techniques may provide fairly accurate capacity numbers, but then they may be off by 2 or 3X also.... so how do you know when to trust or not??? That's the quandry one faces using these testers.
