BK 8540 Actrive Load
5.0
Great little unit. Reasonable price and works perfectly. Very pleased so far. I'm using it as a bench test device for power supplies and also for discharging large LiPo batteries to their storage voltage. Wanted something like this for a long time and really glad I bought it. Would recommend it for sure!

Works well and is economically priced

It's a nicely performing electronic load for the price. I've used it several years, mostly in constant current mode for testing small power supplies, and it's worked well. In addition to constant current mode, it has constant voltage and constant resistance modes.
One limitation is the display, which shows two numerical values. The upper value is the set value (e.g. set current if in constant current mode) or the input voltage. The lower value is watts consumed or actual current. The view button is used to toggle the display between the pairs of data displayed. Or, if the upper display is showing input voltage and the setting knob is turned, the upper value briefly shows the new set value and then reverts to showing voltage. I would have paid a little more to have a third data display dedicated to always showing the set value instead of having to toggle back and forth a lot.
The unit has an alternate boot mode that allows manually programming a sequence of tests. I haven't used this mode, so cannot comment on how well it works.
The fan could be quieter, but after the unit has been running few minutes, I don't notice it. There is a DB-9 connector on the back, but it's for factory use, presumably for testing or adding firmware code. The manual gives no clue on how to use it.
I like the vertical orientation of the unit, which takes little bench space. The display is bright and easy to read even in a well lit room, and the functions of the controls are fairly obvious. The manual is well written and illustrated. I haven't looked inside the unit so can't comment on well its innards have been designed or constructed.
If its current and voltage limits meet your needs, give it some consideration. I have no regrets about buying it and use it a lot.
